WWE Raw guest host Al Sharpton comments on the company's past racial insensitivity, says he spoke with Vince McMahon about the issues
Sep 25, 2009 - 11:37 AM |
WWE Raw guest host Al Sharpton was contacted by Newsday.com blogger Alfonso Castillo regarding the company's past racial insensitivity. Castillo cited several examples including the Mexicools, Cryme Tyme, Vince McMahon dropping the n-bomb, and more.
Sharpton responded with a statement that included the following: "As Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain did before him, Reverend Sharpton recognizes that WWE events provide an unfettered opportunity to raise important issues to a national audience of Americans."
"Rev. Sharpton has talked to Vince McMahon who assured him that they have corrected and will discontinue any racial denigration." To read the entire statement, visit The Steel Cage blog.
Powell's POV: I don't have a problem with Sharpton appearing on the show, but the "they did it, so it's okay" excuse about the presidential candidates was lame. The candidates were clowning around and reading from comedy scripts. They didn't appear on the show to raise important issues to Americans, they simply wanted to get more votes.
