Dot Net WWE News: A former WWE employee rips the idea of an annual Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, explains why scripting out so many promos is detrimental to the product
Sep 15, 2009 - 03:47 PM

A former WWE employee I spoke with on Monday was not crazy about the idea of holding an annual Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event. "You're putting your talent in a dangerous environment," he said. "You do whatever this year and then you have to top it next year... That's why we used to pace it by having it every 18 months or so."

The same source was critical of WWE for scripting so many promos for the wrestlers. "That's another indictment of scripted promos," he said regarding the way Dolph Ziggler stuck to the script when the Montreal fans heckled him at Breaking Point. "They're so regimented and that's why the guys don't have any instincts."

Powell's POV: I couldn't agree more with the source on both points. I'm also concerned that the Hell in a Cell concept won't seem so special when you have more than one match fought inside the structure on the same show. Even if the producers go out of their way to make the matches different so the wrestlers aren't trying to top one another, I fear that it will lead to a match or two that won't live up to the high expectations that fans have for Hell in a Cell matches.
