9/8 WWE Smackdown onsite report: Detailed notes on last night's taping - wrestler splits his trunks, another takes a beating with a kendo stick (spoilers)
Sep 9, 2009 - 09:45 AM

Dot Net Member "MattheWWFanatic" attended the WWE Smackdown taping in Rockford, Ill. and is passing along the following results as they happen.

Just got back from the show (traffic was a bitch getting out of there). Very good show overall and I would recommend a Smackdown taping over Raw anytime. The show lasted almost a full 4 hours and had plenty of very good matches.

The Metrocentre was sold out with just a few scattered seats throughout the building. Attendance around 10,000.

Jimmy Yang only works one week a month but he collected his paycheck on this show as Kane wore him out with half a dozen kendo stick shots. Yang's back was full of welts and appeared to have the skin broken in at least one place, ouch.

Zach Ryder ripped the jobber's tights during their ECW match. The poor guy was given a towel right after the match by the referee so he could get to the back without his ass hanging out.

When Slam Master J came out, the guy behind us referred to him as "John Cena's cousin" which got a laugh out of our section. He's aweful, good thing Uncle Michael has some pull.

There were four kids in front of me from the same family with some impressive haircuts. One kid had a mohawk, two had "reverse Tyson Kidd's" that were three-inches long in the back, and 1 had a 1990s bleach blonde Sting rat-tail. Just had to bring that up.

I also saw a guy who appeared to have stolen Ricky Morton's mullet as we were leaving the building. Only at WWE events and NASCAR, I guess.

I kept up my streak of telling Tommy Dreamer he's fat at every event I see him. Hopefully, he uses it as motivation.

I also started the "OU, 0-1" and "GO BYU" shouts when Jim Ross came out that were carried on by others throughout the night when it got quiet. Boomer Sooner.

Cryme Tyme is way over and I think it mostly has to do with their music, the kids love it. Hell, R-Truth could probably get over if he came out to that (Nah, he would still suck). JTG has a star quality about him but he might not get the push because he's undersized if he ever becomes a singles guy.

John Morrison started out way to sappy with thanking Rey Mysterio, but by the end he looked like a star with the crowd in the palm of his hands getting them to chant "Mr Ziggles" at Dolph. I don't know if it will last (they took a page right out of Shaq calling Chris Jericho, "Christina") but he'll come across TV as a big deal.

Matt Hardy was beaten clean in the main event, one week after C.M. Punk destroyed him. He's over with the live crowd when his music plays and for comebacks during the match but he doesn't come across as a main event guy who is going to win the big match. Looks as if he'll be back down in the IC title picture after tonight.

Punk vs. Undertaker in the dark match went about 20 minutes (Punk stalled for around five minutes to start off) and shows that they will be able to deliver on Sunday at the PPV. After Punk intentionally got DQ'd by hitting Taker with a chair, he was chokeslammed and tombstoned. Punk laid motionless for over 5 mins and staid in the ring barely moving until almost all the crowd was gone, still making the refs carry him to the back. He showed real professionalism in selling Taker's finishers.
