Jim Ross comments on his future with WWE, his upcoming non-WWE television appearance, and "The Rise and Fall of WCW" DVD
Aug 21, 2009 - 03:18 PM |
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.
Ross on his future with WWE: "I mentioned I was going to have a 'surprise' at Summerslam and the answer is that it's my guest shot on the Food Network that will be taped early Sunday morning. Some of my peers thought I was going to announce that I was leaving WWE when my contract expires later this year. Sorry to disappoint them, that was a joke BTW, but I'm still not at that bridge yet and those types of decisions will be made later in the year in a professional manner.
"Let me make it clear that I doubt that I ever fully 'retire' from the work force and that I will always be involved in something whether it be continuing to build our J.R.'s Family BBQ Brand or doing other projects of which I have an interest. I enjoy working and staying busy and there are many things that I am excited about exploring as time goes on. Would I like to slow down a little and not travel every week? You bet...if it could be arranged but, again, time will tell and it certainly isn't something that has me concerned."
Powell's POV: Sounds like there's some questions regarding J.R.'s long-term future with WWE. He's a huge asset to the company, but he hasn't always been appreciated by Vince McMahon and others as much as he should be. Here's hoping they do right by J.R. Either way, I'm sure he'll thrive. Here's hoping TNA is paying close attention to J.R.'s status with WWE.
-Ross on The Rise and Fall of WCW DVD: "Thursday night I decided to watch more of the WWE DVD release of 'The Rise and Fall of WCW.' I must say that this is a great DVD and not only are the matches selected to best represent the period excellent but Disc 1 with all the interviews and sound bytes included is compelling.
Jim Crockett, Jr. was tremendous with his comments and it was good to hear a fresh perspective on this well discussed matter from someone who had such a significant, vested interest in the subject. David Crockett also had some really interesting things to say about this matter as well. Of course WCW was created from Jim Crockett Promotions, a regional wrestling company founded by Jim and David's father in the 30's.
Powell's POV: I must admit that I wasn't looking forward to this DVD, but Ross has praised it a couple times now so I'll give it a chance. J.R. had a lot more to say about the DVD in his full blog, so check it out.
Other topics include the big sale at J.R.'s Bar-B-Q site, more on his future, and Brock Lesnar's next UFC fight.
