Dot Net reader Tyler Rooney passed along the following report on the matches taped in Kansas City, Mo. last night.
WWE Smackdown taping
The pyros go off and then a 6 man tag match kicks off the show.
1. Rey Mysterio and Cryme Tyme defeated Jeri-show and Dolph Ziggler. The crowd was intense for this contest. They weren't that alive for ECW or Superstars, but once Smackdown began, they were into it. Great match for sure that saw Jeri-show and Ziggler win. Ziggler got the pin on Mysterio.
The next segment was a sitdown interview backstage with Matt Hardy. Matt basically said that him and Jeff are at peace and attacking him was the biggest mistake of his life and that Jeff accepts his apology.
Kane came out next to cut a promo on Great Khali. Kane claimed that Khali is not a monster and that Khali has compassion and emotion, which Kane does not. Khali entered the arena and Kane grabbed a chair. Khali punched the chair out of Kane's hands and began to pummel him. Kane escaped, and the crowd boos. Khali exited.
2. Finlay defeated Mike Knox by DQ. A pretty slow match, nothing exciting to note here. The DQ occurred when Knox kept punching Finlay in the face past the referee's five count. Finlay got hit with the steel steps after the match.
All of a sudden, the ring crew begins to bring out tons of tables, ladders, and chairs. Jeff Hardy came out to cut a promo on Punk. He said that his doctors want him to retire but he never listened to doctors then and he won't start now. Punk came out and comments on how being straight edge is the way to go.
Punk called everyone in Kansas City drunk (which was funny) and then claimed Jeff Hardy was "high" because he was on top of the ladder. Punk attempted to shove Jeff off the ladder (he was perched upon on in the center of the ring) but Jeff hopped down. Jeff hit a Twist of Fate on Punk as the ladder he was just standing on fell and hits him in the head. Kind of funny.
3. Melina and Maria defeated Natayla and Layla. Michelle McCool came out for commentary during this one. It was your basic Diva tag team match, it felt pretty short, and it wasn't that great by any means.
Backstage interview with Mysterio, basically saying that he doesn't respect Dolph.
J.R. and The Grish are in the ring running down the SummerSlam card.
4. The Hardys and John Morrison defeated The Hart Dynasty and CM Punk. Intense main event. I thought it was intelligent to open the show with a six-man tag and close the show with a six-man tag. Both built up SummerSlam properly I thought. Once the ring was cleared, Matt hit the Twist of Fate on Punk and gets the pin. The Hardys and Morrison celebrated in the ring as the show closed.
30 percent of the arena left at this point which was funny because they advertised a cage match as the dark main event... so Morrison, Matt Hardy, and the Hart Dynasty all leave at separate times and then they begin setting up the cage.
Dark Main Event
1. Jeff Hardy defeated CM Punk in a steel cage match. Short cage match, but a nice entertaining one for sure.
One of the better Smackdown shows I've been too. I'm glad I got to go to one while Smackdown was hot right now.
