WWE VP of creative Stephanie McMahon comments on the WWE Raw guest host concept, reveals how long the gimmick will last
Aug 17, 2009 - 12:38 PM

Stephanie McMahon explained the purpose of the WWE Raw guest host concept in a Variety website article. "We wanted a different way to get our product out there and talked about," McMahon told Variety.com. "Tying us in with celebrities in Hollywood raises our awareness and gets a variety of people talking about us, which is always a positive place to be. Hopefully it will translate to new viewers."

The article also notes that the plan is for guest hosts to appear on Raw through the end of the year and possibly leading up to WrestleMania 26. "For right now, it's really working and clicking," McMahon said. "But it's just the beginning... We've gotten the point across that we are fun, we are entertaining and you are guaranteed to have a good time. We've become a complement to the traditional circuit." Powell's POV: The concept is generating a lot of buzz for WWE. It's a shame the actual wrestling product isn't stronger so that WWE could keep viewers hooked on the show and get them ordering pay-per-views. Am I the only person who thinks it would be wise for WWE to save the heavy hitter celebrities for pay-per-view events?
