Dot Net readers Agahzi and Justin O'Connor are at the WWE Smackdown tapings and are sending in separate reports, which are being combined the single report listed below.
Dark Match
1. Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Eric Escobar. Escobar cut a promo beforehand and got decent heat. Yang won with a moonsault. The ECW and WWE Superstars tapings took place after this match. See the main page for the spoilers.
WWE Smackdown taping
A video package recapped last week's main event, which led to C.M. Punk coming out and cutting a great truthful heel promo. He called smokers stupid criminals. I forgot how good he could be as a heel. Ring intros took place for the World Heavyweight Title match.
Hardy charged Punk and they brawled until Teddy Long and a bunch of refs broke it up. Out came Vince McMahon, who chastised Teddy for losing control. Vince announced that the title match would take place later with a special enforcer. Everyone will have to wait to find out who.
1. John Morrison defeated Tyson Kidd (w/Natalya, David Hart Smith). The Harts botched their entrance when natalya fell off the apron. Kidd dominated early with rest holds. Late in the contest, Morrison slipped off the ropes trying for the Chuck kick. He's so good that nobody gave him the "You f'd up chant." They redid the spit and Morrison wins with Starship Pain.
2. Slam Master J defeated Charlie Haas. Jesse has a few people mocking his lame gimmick. A boring and quick match ends after jesse hits a flying crossbody. Crickets.
3. Dolph Ziggler defeated Finlay, Mike Knox, and R-Truth to earn an Intercontinental Title match at SummerSlam. Mysterio did commentary. Finlay hit Knox with the shillelagh, but Ziggler caught Finlay with his jumping neck breaker. Afterward Ziggler jawed at Rey, who then jumped off the announce table onto Dolph.
Backstage, Maria was gushing to Melina about Dolph. Melina warned her to be careful but says she's so happy for her.
4. JTG pinned Chris Jericho. Oh boy, got another worker on our hands. JTG had long been showing signs that he can work. Jericho hit the code breaker, but JTG's arm and leg were outside the ring. When Jericho went to pull him to the center, JTG locked an inside cradle for the pin.
The Hell in a Cell pay-per-view will take place Oct. 4 in Newark, N.J. at the Prudential Center. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.
The ringside area was dark as a dozen ring crew member scurried around and under the ring. Interesting. Undertaker? A troops video shown for second time during this.
5. Great Khali squashed Ricky Ortiz in a minute. Kane emerged from under the ring and hit Khali. Kane grabbed Runjin Singh and dragged him through the arena with Khali following them.
Matt Hardy is the special enforcer for the World Hvt. Championship match between Jeff Hardy and C.M. Punk.
6. Jeff Hardy defeated C.M. Punk to retain the World Hvt. Championship. Matt Hardy was the special enforcer referee. Late in the match Punk went for a baseball slide but Jeff moved and he hit Matt. Jeff went for the Swanton, but Punk got his knees up. He went for the cover but Matt yanked the red out. As Matt and Punk argued, Jeff rolled up Punk and Matt made the three count. Punk chased after Matt up the ramp but then came back and attacked Jeff. He put a chair around Jeff's neck and pushed him into the ring post. Punk left as Jeff was placed on a stretcher. Punk stopped and stood at the top of the ramp.
Teddy Long came out and chastised Punk, who demanded a rematch. Long said if Hardy recovers by Summerslam, he'll get his rematch "Jeff Hardy style" in a TLC match at Summerslam. Good show.
Dark Match
1. Jeff Hardy defeated C.M. Punk in a steel cage to retain the World Hvt. Championship. Punk demanded an immediate rematch in a cage. Jeff won in one minute via the Swanton
