Jim Ross comments on Shawn Michaels's upcoming return to WWE, whether JBL belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame, plus Fedor and Brock Lesnar
Aug 2, 2009 - 06:25 PM |
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.
-Ross on Shawn MIchaels: "Yes, I feel that HBK will be back in WWE action soon, as do most. Furthermore if Shawn's schedule is properly managed he can continue to contribute at a high level for several years to come, if he so chooses. My opinion is that in the upcoming years that a HBK at 75 percent is better than the vast majority of the men who earn a living in the wrestling biz today. "
Powell's POV: WWE should start marketing HBK's house show appearances as special attractions. Make a big fuss over the fact that you never know whether it will be the last time you get a chance to see him in person, and I think the fans would respond favorably. One of the biggest blunders WWE made in recent years was not giving Ric Flair a retirement tour. I believe they cost themselves millions on that move and I hope they don't make the same mistake with HBK.
-Ross on JBL: "So some don't think JBL deserves consideration for the WWE HOF some day. I disagree but dissenting opinions are o.k. on this site."
Powell's POV: If Koko B. Ware is in the HOF, then I don't think anyone can complain about a multi-time World Champion. Of course, many will complain, but when don't people bitch about a Hall of Fames - wrestling, music, or mainstream sports?
-Ross on Fedor and Brock Lesnar: "Fedor's sponsor/entourage want UFC to facilitate the growth and exposure of their rival MMA company M-1 which is absolutely ludicrous and laughable from a business point of view. Secondly, look for Brock Lesnar to perhaps get a new deal now that all the Fedor $$$$ have been thrown around whether those numbers are accurate or not and my feeling is that they are probably embellished somewhat.
Powell's POV: Ross had a lot more to say about the Fedor and Lesnar situation in his full blog. It will be interesting to see whether Lesnar and other fighters who have actually drawn big at the box office and on pay-per-view demand bigger deals now that UFC flirted with the idea of paying Fedor that type of dough.
Other topics include the development of younger talent, broadcasting notes, and a potentially big deal for J.R.'s Bar-B-Q.
