Dot Net News: Would WWE have interest in rehiring Kurt Angle?
Jul 21, 2009 - 01:33 PM

Dot Net has confirmed a report that some WWE officials felt they could reacquire Kurt Angle in 2007. The creative team discussed the possible move and there were some in favor and others who were against the move. Ultimately, the idea was pitched to Vince McMahon and he shot it down quickly, noting that Angle was not a channel changer while also citing his prescription pill issues.

Powell's POV: This coincides with what I was told this morning by a TNA source who noted that TNA struggled to finalize a contract with Angle during his first year with the company. A WWE source told me months ago that the company would be interested in using Angle on a limited schedule similar to what Shawn Michaels and Undertaker work. However, I have since been told that WWE has no interest, as the primary concern is whether he could adhere to the Wellness Policy. Never say never in wrestling, though.

By the way, Angle has given conflicting statements regarding his current contractual status during interviews. He stated in at least one interview that his TNA deal expires in September, but some insiders are under the impression that there is another year left on his contract.
