WWE official says the company hasn't ruled out dropping some pay-per-view events from the schedule, explains why several pay-per-view names were changed
Jul 4, 2009 - 01:54 PM

WWE vice president of distribution and affiliate marketing Peter Clifford told Multichannel News that the company hasn't ruled out the possibility of cutting some pay-per-view events from the schedule. "We’re constantly looking at our product to find out how to make it better,” Clifford told Multichannel News.

Clifford also noted that he's hopeful that changing the names of some pay-per-view events will lead to more buys. "We’ve been doing these PPVs for a few years and we felt that some of the PPVs were a little flat in terms of what we wanted the titles to project, so we looked to see which ones we can rename,” he said. Powell's POV: The story noted that WWE hasn't ruled out "dropping some monthly pay-per-view events and adding others in." Isn't that essentially what they're doing by renaming the pay-per-views? The recent stretch of holding a pay-per-view every three weeks was too much in the sense that it didn't feel like the company had enough time to promote each show. I'd like to see the company go with one pay-per-view per month, but I'd be surprised if they actually drop shows from the schedule in future years.
