Former WWE creative team member predicts Ric Flair’s career will continue, says War Games matches have been pitched

Former WWE writer Seth Mates has updated his blog with a prediction that Ric Flair will wrestle again after WrestleMania 24. “Sure it’ll be emotional next Sunday. (You’ll have to let me know how emotional. I won’t be watching). But like may other things in wrestling, I have a feeling the reason behind the emotion will be mostly manufactured. So how are you gonna feel when WWE has a pay-per-view in North Carolina in a couple of years and brings Flair back for ‘one night only’ as a tag team partner for someone? Or something along those lines?”
Mates also commented on a War Games match that was pitched: “When we pitched the War Games match, however, a valid concern was brought up -- we were just a year removed from 9-11, and the U.S. could have gone to war at any time (which wound up happening the following March). How would it have looked for us to be promoting a War Games match if war were to break out, say, the day before? (Probably as bad as having an Arab terrorist character the day of London terror bombings, I'd say). To read the blog entries, visit Newsday.com.
Powell’s POV: Retirement stipulations rarely hold up in wrestling and I won’t be surprised if we see Flair back in the ring at some point, but I think what’s special about this match is that it will likely be his final appearance as an active wrestler.
It’s always frustrated me that WWE has never used the War Games match. One can only hope they’ll use it sooner or later. Heck, I don’t even care if they call it something else. It’s a great match and I’d love to see WWE use it. Mates’s column is a good read and also includes some of the ideas that were pitched for the Billy and Chuck angle that never materialized.
