WWE News: The reason Umaga was fired
Jun 11, 2009 - 09:20 AM

WWE posted a statement on their website to announce that Umaga (a/k/a Eddie Fatu) was fired for violating the Wellness Policy. "It should be noted that Umaga's termination was due to his second violation of the WWE Wellness Program and his subsequent refusal to attend a rehabilitation facility," reads the item. You can check out the full statement by visiting WWE.com. [Thanks to several readers for passing this along]

Powell's POV: The note is in the "Industry News" section on the WWE website, but the company also included it on their corporate website. The second offense in the WWE Wellness Policy gives WWE the right to suspend a wrestler indefinitely until the individual has successfully completed a drug rehab program. The company is not required to send the performer to rehab after the second violation. Rather, it's the company's call as to whether "talent appears to be in need of a drug rehabilitation program."
