Dot Net Exclusive: Some of the ideas WWE creative came up with for Steve Austin at WrestleMania 24
Mar 18, 2008 - 12:58 PM |
Steve Austin has gone on record in the past stating that he rejected a story line that was pitched for him at WrestleMania 24. The creative team had discussions about approaching him regarding the idea of having a match against Hulk Hogan, but one source believes they never actually made the pitch because it’s common knowledge that he has no interest in doing a program with Hogan.
There were also discussions about approaching Austin to serve as the referee for the Floyd Mayweather and Big Show match at WrestleMania. Predictably, the plan called for Austin to give both men Stunners either at the end of the match or afterward. Again, though, the source was not sure whether this idea was ever presented to Austin.
Powell’s POV: Austin has stated in the past that he intends to go to the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Therefore, he will be in Orlando on WrestleMania weekend so there’s a chance he could still be talked into making a surprise appearance, but WWE is not advertising him for the show.
I remain surprised that Vince McMahon hasn’t brought in more celebrities for the Mayweather vs. Big Show match. This seems like the perfect spot to use celebrities as judges. However, the problem could be that WWE officials haven’t settled in on the style of match they will be having. If they have figured it out, I’m assuming that they’ll just keep the details quiet in hopes of adding intrigue regarding what the actual match will be.
