Ric Flair says he's ready to come out of retirement, comments on Reid Flair's addiction issues, praises ROH for not being like TNA
May 14, 2009 - 01:28 PM

Ric Flair says he's ready to return to the ring after a 14-month hiatus. "I want to wrestle again," Flair told Alex Marvez of Scripps News. "I watch (WWE) and I can still do better than 90 percent of the guys there. I weigh one less pound than the day I retired. I still work out really hard and I wrestle my kid (Reid) all the time. It's not like I haven't been in the ring."

Flair also stated that plans for his reality show and Reid Flair's wrestling career are on hold following his youngest son's latest arrest. "It all depends on how he gets himself put back together," said Flair. "The biggest thing about that is that it's a disease. It's not so hard for me to say that after being at an outpatient clinic with him where they talk about a chromosome deficiency causing stuff like that. It's curable, but he's going to have to work real hard at it. He's doing that."

Flair also discussed working for Ring of Honor and took a jab at TNA in the process. "The people running Ring of Honor are really nice guys and have a lot of integrity, which mean a lot in terms of wrestling promotions," Flair said. "They're not trying to put (WWE) out of business. They just want to have their own business. There's nothing negative unlike in TNA where all they talk about is trying to beat Vince (McMahon)." To read the full interview, visit ScrippsNews.com.

Powell's POV: Flair went on to say that he respects Shawn Michaels and WWE so much that he doesn't want to disrespect him. However, HBK told Brian Fritz of BetweenTheRopes.com recently that he wouldn't object if Ric wanted to return to the ring again.

It's good to hear Ric acknowledge that Reid's health comes before pro wrestling. I'm not sure where Flair came up with the line about TNA officials being consumed with beating Vince. I'm sure it's their goal, but I'm not sure whether he was making that statement based on conversations he's had with them or simply based on the perception that he has about the company. It's an interesting interview. Highly recommended.
