4/28 WWE Smackdown tapings in New York: Full results from Madison Square Garden show headlined by a match to determine which wrestler will challenge Edge for the WWE Title at Judgment Day (spoilers)
Apr 28, 2009 - 09:50 PM

Dot Net readers Donnie Keyz and Justin O'Connor are at the WWE Smackdown tapings in New York, N.Y. and are filing the following combined report regarding the show as it happens.

The scramble match was replaced by a fatal four-way to determine the No. 1 contender. Teddy Long announced Chris Jericho, Edge, and Randy Orton vs. Batista, John Cena, and Rey Mysterio as the dark match main event.

Chris Jericho came to the ring and called the fans hypocrites. He said Smackdown is his show and said he will be champion. Edge came out and said Jericho can't beat John Cena like he can. Edge said Smackdown is his show and it belongs to him. Jericho got in his face and started to talk until C.M. Punk interrupted him.

A clip aired of Punk cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase last year. Jericho felt disrespected and left the ring. Punk vs. Edge was announced for later in the show. Edge said it was a non-title match. Punk said he was going to knockout Edge with the GTS and then cash in his MITB contract.

1. John Morrison defeated Shelton Benjamin. Standard action in the roughly five minute match. Morrison seemed to be the babyface.

Backstage, Chris Jericho complained to Teddy Long. Great Khali entered the room and told Jericho to stop whining.

2. Jeff Hardy defeated Chris Jericho, Kane, and Rey Mysterio in a fatal four-way elimination match to become No. 1 contender. Jericho eliminated Kane, but was then DQ'd for using a chair. Hardy no-sold both of Rey's finishers and rolled him up. Hardy was over huge. Dude is a rock star.

Backstage, Jericho barged into Long's office only to find Maria. Jericho complained and then Edge came in. Jericho left. Edge said he was going to call his wife.

Cryme Tyme hosted a dance off between Eve and Layla. Eve won and Layla decked her. A cat fight broke out. Cryme Tyme broke it up and received major heat from the fans who wanted more.

A backstage segment aired with MVP and Sherri from "The View." It looked like she was wearing a Ric Flair robe from 1991.

3. MVP beat Dolph Ziggler to retain the U.S. Title.

Backstage, Jericho complained to Long. Morrison got involved and was slapped by Jericho. Morrison is definitely a babyface. Punk walked by, which led to his match with Edge.

4. C.M. Punk pinned Edge in a non-title match. Punk got the clean pin with the GTS. Wow.

Punk tried to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, but Umaga attacked him before the bell rang. Jeff Hardy made the save. Edge picked up the briefcase. No bell, so no match, meaning Punk likely retains his MITB contract.

Dark Match

1. John Cena, Batista, and Rey Mysterio defeated Randy Orton, Edge, and Chris Jericho. A great show with a hot crowd.
