Jim Ross comments on Elijah Burke's release from WWE, the UFC fight between Brock Lensar vs. Randy Couture, Lesnar claiming he didn't want to sign with WWE after college
Nov 11, 2008 - 10:47 AM

Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.

-Ross on Elijah Burke's release from WWE: "Elijah Burke’s whereabouts are now well know as he was cut by the WWE in recent hours. Burke is a good talker and if I were him in addition to staying in wrestling, if he chooses, I would give Hollywood a shot. Tough break for Elijah but he cannot look at it as the world’s end. Getting 'let go' happens to the best of us. :)"

Powell's POV:

-Ross on Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture: "I’m still a Lesnar 'lean' for Saturday night in Vegas vs former Oklahoma State star Randy Couture. If Brock makes no major errors early and Couture can survive the last two rounds against a man who will out weigh him 55 pounds at match time it makes this a helluva interesting fight. I’ll be watching with some Soooner coaches on Saturday night."

Powell's POV: For new readers, Ross is an avid MMA fan and has been right more often than he's been wrong with his predictions. I'm still not sure which fighter will win on Saturday, but I'm really looking forward to the fight. By the way, Dot Net will be offering "Live Coverage" of the event, which marks the first time a UFC show will be covered live. Rich Twilling, who is training for his first MMA fight, will be handling the live coverage, so feel free to watch along with him on Saturday night.

-Ross on Lesnar stating that he did not want to join WWE after college: "Lesnar saying he did not want to come to the WWE out of the University of Minnesota makes for an intriguing sound byte but that’s about all. Lesnar seemed okay to me with signing with the WWE and earned over seven figures his third or fourth year in the biz. Bottom line after all the posturing, Lesnar hated traveling."

Powell's POV: I have to agree with Ross on this one. When I interviewed Brock before his last fight, he made it clear that he had a passion for pro wrestling. He definitely hated the travel. It's possible that he would have pursued an MMA career at the time if the sport was as big as it is now and the money was equal, but it's not like he had zero passion for pro wrestling and did it strictly for the money.

Other topics include production headaches at Mondays' Raw, watching old wrestling footage with Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura on commentary, Tazz and Jerry Lawler.
