7/25 WWE Smackdown TV taping spoilers: More details on the taping for the August 2 show
Jul 26, 2013 - 12:50 PM

WWE Smackdown TV taping
Houston, Texas
Report by Dot Net reader Michael Lindsey

Lilian Garcia came out to a great ovation and sang the national anthem. Michael Cole and Alex Riley were introduced as the announce team.

Alberto Del Rio came out to some major heat. He made a joke about Houston...major heat. Del Rio revealed his SummerSlam opponent as Ricardo Rodriguez, which drew Vickie Guerrero from the back. Vickie showed disappointment and Del Rio asked what about Brooklyn Brawler. Vickie set up a Triple Threat match for the number one contender...RVD vs. Christian vs. and Randy Orton. Orton and RVD received huge ovations.

Ads set up Kaitlyn vs. AJ for the Divas Title and CM Punk vs. Fandango.

1. Cody Rhodes beat Jack Swagger (w/Zeb Colter). A scene was played from last Friday where Cody Rhodes threw Sandow's contract in the river. Funny. Cody made his entrance. Zeb said something about Sam Houston and his mic cut out. Cody knocked the mic from Zeb's hand and hit Swagger. The bell rang. Swagger dominated the early going of the match. Swagger went for a suplex and was rolled up messily by Cody, who got the win.

An ad showed WWE 2K14. It looks legit.  Josh Mathews interviewed Cody Rhodes about the case...Cody said a few things then was attacked by Damien Sandow.

2. Big E Langston beat Sin Cara. A.J. Lee was not in Langston's corner. The match had the crappy mood lighting. Sin Cara hit a kick and started getting dominated after. Sin Cara started to come back, but dove off the rope and got caught. He received the big ending for his efforts. Big E Langston got the pin.

Kaitlyn was interviewed and said she would win again. The scene cut to Alberto and Vickie bickering...Brad Maddox walked in and supported Vickie's decision. Maddox punked Del Rio.

3. C.M. Punk defeated Fandango. Fandango made his entrance to like no noise at all. CM Punk received the biggest ovation of the night so far. The offense in the match was less than stellar to start...Fandango got in some good offense in the middle of the match. Punk made a comeback, but Fandango hit a nice suplex for a near fall. Punk hit a superplex and rolled it into the anaconda vice. Fandango tapped out, giving Punk the win.

RVD was interviewed backstage...Christian interrupted and was interrupted by Orton. They bickered about who would win.

4. A.J. Lee defeated Kaitlyn (w/Layla) to retain the WWE Divas Championship. Kaitlyn got a huge ovation from the Houston crowd. Kaitlyn was dominant for the most part, and got AJ to the outside. Kaitlyn went to spear AJ into a security wall and Layla stopped her. AJ took advantage and got Kaitlyn back in the ring, and made her tap to the black widow. After the match, Layla took AJ's hand and skipped out with her. Poor Kaitlyn, nobody wants to be her friend these days. Kaitlyn looked sad as the other Divas left. I'm surprised they'd do this to her character in her hometown.

Apparently, according to Lilian Garcia, the City of Houston declared today, July 25, Booker T day. He was introduced to the hugest ovation of the night.

5. Christian defeated Randy Orton and Rob Van Dam in a Triple Threat to become No. 1 contender to the World Hvt. Championship. Randy Orton made his entrance to some decent noise..Christian received very little noise...RVD received a lot of noise. RVD is the definite favorite here. Del Rio came out and cut a promo about the "three stooges beating the guacamole out of each other." Funny. RVD got speared hard by Christian after leg dropping Orton on the barricade. RVD had an amazing flip over the rope at one point hitting Orton and Christian. Van Dam went for rolling thunder and Orton made it a power slam. Wow. Orton started dominating....

Van Dam got back in and was RKO'ed. Christian got Orton in a baseball slide pin and won the match. Christian is the number one contender. ...what? After the match, Christian and Orton shook hands. Van Dam got up and also shook Christian's hand.
Josh Mathews was in the ring to ask Christian how he felt, and Del Rio attacked Christian and kicked him out and placed the title on his body. I'm guessing that ends the taping.

Dark Main Event

1. Alberto Del Rio defeated Dolph Ziggler in a Street Fight to retain the World Hvt. Championship. Ziggler came out to a huge ovation. This place was crazy for Ziggler. He got a kendo stick early, but was kicked by Del Rio. Del Rio then used the kendo stick on Ziggler. Del Rio set a chair up in the corner and smashed Ziggler's face in it to take the win. Afterward, Del Rio went to hit Ziggler with the chair and Ziggler ducked it to hit Del Rio with the Zig Zag to send the crowd home happy. This concluded the show.

Biggest Pops:
Booker T
Dolph Ziggler
CM Punk
RVD/Orton
Kaitlyn (Hometown hero)

Most Heat
Alberto Del Rio
Fandango
AJ Lee w/Layla
