WWE voice Michael Cole on why Chris Jericho was upset with him, the one time his wife has watched him on television, even he is shocked that his WrestleMania match with Jerry Lawler was given so much time May 13, 2013 - 02:20 PM
WWE play-by-play voice Michael Cole was interviewed by Sam Roberts and revealed that his wife doesn't watch pro wrestling. "The only time she's ever watched me on television was WrestleMania two years ago when I actually had a match," Cole said. She later sent him a text saying "that was pathetic."
Cole said he thought he was knocked out about two minutes into the match and he was so out of breath that he can't remember much about it. He said he didn't watch the match until recently and couldn't believe it was 35 minutes in length. "People hated me," Cole said regarding the backstage atmosphere regarding the length of his match. "I was boring myself while I was walking out there," he said of his promo. He added that he was only given bullet points on what to say beforehand.
Cole also said he got in trouble for mocking a recent bad segment that included Chris Jericho. "What I felt bad about is that I disrespected Chris, who has obviously been in this business longer than I have," Cole said. "He's one of the legendary greats of all-time. More importantly than all of that, Chris is a friend of mine. Believe it or not, I felt bad. I felt bad for a number of reasons... because I didn't go to Chris and explain to him what happened, so he had to hear through the grapevine the next day. So he wasn't happy with me. We ironed things out and he's a great guy." You can view the full interview at Youtube.com/watch?v=vVT6p8gwOmQ.
Powell's POV: Even Cole expressed outrage over his match going so long while Daniel Bryan went 18 seconds. Cole spoke a lot about his WrestleMania match and how he went to developmental a month beforehand to learn how to take bumps. It's a 27-minute interview and Cole also spends time talking about Jerry Lawler's heart attack, his war correspondent background, he and Lawler lambasting Tony Chimel, the former WWE personality who helped him his WWE job, and more. Cole is a lot of fun in this setting and it's worth taking the time to check out.
