Former WWE wrestler Trent Barreta discusses his departure
Jan 24, 2013 - 02:45 PM

Recently released WWE wrestler Trent Barreta (a//k/a Greg Marasciulo) commented on his departure from the company in a Slam Wrestling interview. "I always pictured myself being an indy guy and eventually down the road I would get to WWE," he said. "What ended up happening is I was signed when I was 20 so I never really got the chance to be an indy wrestler. I started wrestling when I was 15 but you don't get booked a lot when you are 16 or 17. I didn't have a lot of connections so I didn't do too many indies.

"For me I am a wrestler no matter what, if I am in WWE or somewhere else it is cool. I didn't see getting fired as my life being over, this is an opportunity to keep wrestling and doing my thing. I am not really down about it at all. It is a new chapter and I think it is going to be great. Now is my chance to get out and show people what I can do and there is nothing holding me back. There are no old men in suits to yell at me and tell me what I did wrong after my match. I am looking forward to just having fun." Powell's POV: Barreta is only 25 so there's plenty of time for him to work his way back to WWE or to find success elsewhere. He's a talented performer who never got much of push in WWE. I'm curious to see what his next career move will be. He also spoke about where he was when he got the call informing him of his release, working with Dolph Ziggler and his brother in NXT, and more. It's a good read.
