WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross on pro wrestling's greatest tag team and the greatest all around performer in pro wrestling history
Dec 30, 2012 - 10:13 AM

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights. To order J.R.'s BBQ products, visit WWEShop.com.

-Ross on the greatest tag team: "I think that the Masked Assassins were the greatest tag team that i ever saw. Most fans today don't even have a clue as to who the Assassins were, Tom Renesto and Joe Hamilton, by the way or that they took their name in 1963 when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. I can still vividly remember their promos and in ring work from that period and that was almost 50 years ago.. Most won't agree with my take on this particular matter but that's simply my opinion of which we all have a right."

Powell's POV: I didn't have much exposure to the Assassins tag team. The best tag team I've seen was the Midnight Express. I especially enjoyed the Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane version of the team, though the Dennis Condrey version was also excellent. Honorable mention on my personal enjoyment list goes to the British Bulldogs and Road Warriors. Hawk and Animal may not have had five star classics, but they were definitely unique and entertaining as hell.

-Ross on the greatest performer in pro wrestling: "I also say that even though @ShawnMichaels or Ric Flair are generally considered the best in ring talents, over the long haul, as any one ever in pro wrestling that the greatest all around performer that I ever witnessed do their thing was Bobby 'the Brain' Heenan. Many younger fans will disagree of which they have the right."

Powell's POV: As someone who grew up on Bobby Heenan's work in the AWA and later in the WWF, Ross won't get any argument from me. The Brain was as quick witted as any comedian and he knew how to draw legitimate heat. I also believe Heenan played a part in the success of Hulk Hogan by being that constant thorn in his side in both companies either as a manager or even via his color commentator work once the managing days were over.

Other topics include the WWE Hall of Fame, Paul Heyman wrestling at MSG, his own relationship with Michael Cole, the WWE website's Top 50 lists, and more.
