10/2 WWE Main Event spoilers: More details on tonight's premiere episode (spoilers)
Oct 3, 2012 - 10:58 AM

WWE Main Event taping
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Report by Dot Net reader Steve Cluck

Miz and Michael Cole were in the center of the ring, welcoming the audience to the first ever episode of the Main Event. They then turned our attention to the TitanTron, where video packages on both Sheamus and Punk aired. Both Punk and Sheamus were interviewed backstage, as well. It appears Miz and Cole are the regular commentators for the show.

1. CM Punk (w/Paul Heyman) beat Sheamus in a champion vs. champion match. This was the match of the night. The crowd reaction was hugely positive for Sheamus. 90 percent of people booed CM Punk, which surprised me, as I thought there would be more Punk fans who disregard the heel turn and cheer him anyway (as we seem to see on most Raw shows). They traded offense and countered each other's moves.

Most signature moves were used, except for the GTS and the Brogue Kick (those moves would appear later in the Smackdown tapings, however). Punk removed a turnbuckle pad from the middle rope, then later gave Sheamus a drop-toe-hold onto the exposed steel turnbuckle for the win. After the match, Sheamus got on the mic and promised that the result would be different if he ever meets Punk in the ring again, likely foreshadowing a future rematch. It is definitely worth checking this match out when it airs on the first episode of the Main Event.

2. Zack Ryder and Santino beat Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel in a tag tournament match. Good pop for Ryder and Santino. Zero reaction for Kidd and Gabriel. High flying offense from Kidd and Gabriel, and even Ryder did a nice leap from the ring to the outside. Santino won with the Cobra to the delight of the crowd.
