How old is too old in pro wrestling? WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr. answers, former WWE creative team member comments
Sep 24, 2012 - 01:21 PM

Miami Herald writer Scott Fishman wrote a two-part piece in the Miami Herald that asks the question of "how old is too old in pro wrestling" following the heart attack that Jerry Lawler suffered on WWE Raw two weeks ago. Fishman posed the question to pro wrestling legend Dory Funk Jr. "How old is too old to run track, play basketball, do karate, work out at the gym, swim 200 meters, snow ski in the mountains, surf the big waves, throw a football, jump on a trampoline, play tennis or walk the high wire?" Funk responded. If you are happy and enjoy doing what you do, why would you ever quit?”

Meanwhile, former WWE creative team member and former Major League Wrestling promoter Court Bauer added: "I wish it was as simple as my belief that everyone has a right to work. If you can pass your meds, then you should have the right to work. However, there’s no criteria that requires such in pro wrestling. The majority of states have deregulated wrestling, and even those that still maintain a commission are a farce when it comes to their meds and monitoring the wellness of talent."

You can read the second part of the story at Miamiherald.com/2012/09/24/3018202/how-old-is-too-old-part-2.html.

Powell's POV: The story also features quotes from Triple H regarding Jerry Lawler's heart attack, Shane Helms, Lance Storm, Sonjay Dutt, Steve Keirn of WWE NXT, and many others. It's an excellent piece and I highly recommend it.
