WWE Raw onsite report: No Jerry Lawler updates for the live crowd, eyewitness notes on Lawler collapsing and how he was removed from the arena, notes on the Raw show
Sep 11, 2012 - 12:15 PM |
Dot Net reader Jon Osborne (@JonPOsborne) attended Monday's WWE Raw television show in Montreal, Quebec and sent the following report.
This was pretty scary stuff. The King started to bend over in his chair. Michael Cole reached over and grabbed his shoulder and tried to snap him out of it. Another guy had his arm around Lawler and was kneeling beside his chair. The King fell forward and the WWE staff around him and some security all ran to him (they were all dressed it black so mostly production staff).
Jerry laid on the floor with people working on him for about a minute. I was sitting in section 205, the side of the stage they brought him to (the opposite side of where Alberto Del Rio drives his car out.). About nine guys picked Jerry up while others removed the barricade that separates announcers from the timekeeper and were Justin Roberts sits.
They removed another barricade to get him past the crowd. They all ran with him to the side if the stage where production sits. They barely had him behind the stage (off to the side just behind the lights. They put him on a stretcher and started CPR, but for some reason the nine guys picked him up again and ran him down the tunnel, presumably to the ambulance or the house doctor. It all happened really fast. Prayers for Jerry!

The crowd was amazing. Extremely loud all night. During commercials they did sign of the night and aired a Pat Patterson highlight package.
C.M. Punk got tons of heat, which was surprising given Canada's tendency to cheer the heels. Bret Hart was ridiculously over obviously. Great opening segment that everyone was into.
Big pop for Randy Orton and everyone was into his match. Punk is so effective in drawing heat. From walking out to even just glances at fans he just draws boos. There were dueling chants for Orton and Punk, just like "Let's Go Cena/Cena Sucks" chants.
I hope it came across just how loud the crowd was in this match. Not a huge pop when Dolph Ziggler came out but the crowd went insane when Jerry Lawler got involved. There was not much reaction for the restart because I think everyone saw it coming.
Major heat for Paul Heyman. You can hear Vickie Guerrero talking even in the nose bleed sections.
Health Slater came out to everyone wondering who he was. Ryback got a decent pop. The crowd was doing the "feed me more" bit right along with him, though he got a fair number of Goldberg chants as well.
Another Patterson video aired highlighting how funny he is.
The crowd loved it when Daniel Bryan came out. A huge "qui" chant broke out. Kane was up next and his pyro made me shit myself, but these two guys are really over. The Prime Time Players are not.
During the match, Jerry Lawler slumped over and security picked him up and carried him out on their shoulders. King wasn't moving at all. He was put on a stretcher behind the curtain. Someone was on the stretcher giving him CPR. It looked really bad. There were a lot of Jerry chants. I hope he is okay.
The crowd was flat for Alberto Del Rio. Everyone was trying to find out what happened to Lawler. The crowd seemed flat during the matches but up for finishes and when the wrestlers enter.
There was a big pop for Booker T, but they didn't seem to care about the Brogue Kick being banned. The Lawler incident really brought down the crowd. There were several times you could see Michael Cole get visibly upset.
Bret Hart got less of an ovation the second time and Cena was booed out of the building. Lots of "you can't wrestle" chants directed at Cena.
After the show went off the air, Bret Hart and John Cena slapped hands with the crowd. A referee ran down and seemed to be trying to get them to hurry up and get backstage. Cole got up from the announcers' table and the cameramen and the referee were all giving him pats on the back. Cole seemed to want none of it and rushed by people and ran up the ramp to the back.
Overall, it was a great show. The crowd was super loud and into the show. However, just like watching at home, I think the three hours (and the Lawler situation) seemed to take a lot out of them. They never gave us an update on Lawler, which I think was awful and sucked the life out of the crowd. If they could announce Pat Patterson Appreciation Night was cancelled because of it, they could have at least told us how Lawler was doing. We all love The King.
Biggest Pops
1. Brett hart
2. John cena
3. Jerry Lawler
4. Randy Orton
5. Kane and Bryan
Most Heat
1. C.M. Punk
2. John Cena
3. Cody Rhodes
