Jim Ross comments on Shawn Michaels Appreciation Night, Triple H and Brock Lesnar on WWE Raw, Wade Barrett's reintroduction video
Aug 7, 2012 - 02:32 PM

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights. To order J.R.'s BBQ products, visit WWEShop.com.

-Ross on Shawn Michaels Appreciation Night: "I wish I had been in San Antonio for the HBK Appreciation Night portion of the evening that was held after RAW went off the air. I'm a major HBK fan for many reasons and not all of them have to do with wrestling. I am grateful that I was a small part of the process that helped facilitate Shawn's WWE return after four years off. I was working for Bill Watts' Mid South Wrestling when Shawn had his first match there and remember him being taken under the wing of the Rock 'n Roll Express, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson. I don't know if Shawn Michaels is hand's down the very BEST of all time, it's an overly subjective topic, but I can make a valid argument that no one that I've ever seen with my own eyes has been BETTER."

Powell's POV: It's too bad this didn't play out on Raw because it seemed to be the most entertaining part of the Raw show in San Antonio, though I don't think Taker would have been nearly as comedic had this aired on live television. One can only hope that it will pop up on a future DVD release. As for the "best" debate, I have a tough time choosing between HBK and Ric Flair as the best wrestlers I've seen during my lifetime.

-Ross on Triple H and Brock Lesnar: "Really enjoyed the HHH/Lesnar business with @ShawnMichaels and @HeymanHustle adding greatly to the process. The segment left me wanting more which I perceive as a good thing. I was thinking that it would be a potentially long night for Shawn in his hometown, I speak from experience, but I was wrong. I was looking for the 'heater' and got an off speed pitch. Now I have even more to look forward to regarding this high profile matter heading into Summerslam. Lesnar telling HBK that "I'll see you before Summerslam" is a major declaration."

Powell's POV: I thought we might see an angle later in the show with Lesnar and Michaels, but perhaps WWE held off because of the big ceremony they held for HBK after Raw went off the air. Either way, I expect Brock to make good on that storyline threat.

-Ross on Wade Barrett: "Wade Barrett vignette...I loved it. Extremely well produced. "Barrett Barrage" might take some getting used to but the vignette itself featuring a man who has yet to remotely approach his potential was a hit."

Powell's POV: Agreed. I roll my eyes whenever the "Barrett Barrage" line is used, but the reintroduction video was well done. Barrett carried The Nexus as a WWE main roster rookie and then he was lost in the shuffle. Here's hoping WWE has some big plans for him.

Other topics include C.M. Punk's closing promo, Big Show, WWE NXT tapings this week, working with THQ on video game work during SummerSlam weekend, Damien Sandow, Dolph Ziggler, A.J., and more.
