JBL says he will be returning to WWE television, discusses his mountain climbing plans
Jun 11, 2012 - 01:02 PM |
WWE star JBL (a/k/a John Layfield) appeared on the The Sam Roberts show on Sunday on the Opie & Anthony Channel on XM 105/Sirius 206. He was asked whether he ever gets the itch to return to WWE. "The itch is there, but not a strong enough itch to get on a plane every week," JBL said. "I love performing and I love the WWE, they've been my family for almost the last two decades.
"I'm going to do something on WWE television. We've already agreed. I have no idea what. They don't even know what yet. Don't know (when). They don't even know that. When I started doing this whole seven summits, they said it's very important to appear on WWE television because that helps give a push to what you're doing with the seven summits. And I have no idea if that's just going to be me being backstage or being in character.
"It obviously won't be a full-time deal, I'm climbing seven mountains over the next few years. I'm not around very much and I'm in Bermuda most of the time. So I don't want to give people the impression that I'm coming back in any type of full-time role, but I will be on TV, I just have no idea what type of role I will be in whether it's a straight guest appearance or what. They don't know it yet either. They are very busy right now with tons of stuff going on."
JBL spoke about his question to climb Mount Everest and attempting to raise money for children in Bermuda. He will be climbing six mountains in preparation and will be updating his social media pages in the process. He praised WWE for their role in the fundraising effort.
JBL noted that he intends to climb Mount Everest in 2014. He said he has no climbing experience. He said he can't control how the altitude will affect him, but he is going through an acclimation stage that will help him increase his red blood cell count. He said that it can also be dangerous for those with heart issues can suffer heart attacks of their red blood cell count increases.
JBL was asked whether he's the top of person who will make it or die trying. "I hope not," JBL said. However, he added that he is that type of person, yet he promised his wife that he will fight the urge. "I can't say I'm 100 percent going to make it, but I'm going to try." He said the first mountain he is climbing will be an indicator of whether he feels he can climb the other six mountains. Powell's POV: I wonder if JBL's appearance will take place on the 1,000th edition of Raw given that many names from the past are expected to appear. JBL also spoke about his heel WWE work, Chris Jericho's suspension, bullying younger wrestlers during his career including The Miz, and more. Sam noted that his wife bought him an "original, used Goldust outfit" as a wedding gift. He's obviously a big fan and asks good questions and it's a good 26-minute interview.
