Jim Ross on whether C.M. Punk vs. Daniel Bryan was better than Undertaker vs. Triple H at WrestleMania 28, plus the Fatal Four Way match at WWE Over The Limit, and Christian winning the Intercontinental Title
May 21, 2012 - 01:30 PM

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights. To order J.R.'s BBQ products, visit WWEShop.com.

-Ross on C.M. Punk vs. Daniel Bryan: "The WWE Title bout was the overwhelming show stealer in Raleigh. @CMPunk vs. @WWEDanielBryan had one of the best bouts that I can recall seeing in years. Was it better than WM28 Undertaker vs. HHH? Not in my view but it was damn close and considering the atmosphere at OTL compared to Miami that's a viable compliment. Plus, regarding Taker-HHH, I'm biased because I had the opportunity to call that one. Just being honest."

Powell's POV: It's hard to compare the two because one match years of WWE storyline build in some ways, and certainly months of build on television leading up to the match, whereas Punk vs. Bryan received only minimal storyline support. That doesn't change match quality, but it definitely makes a difference when it comes to whether the match is perceived as historically significant, crowd response, etc. By the way, Ross went on in his actual blog to offer strong praise for Punk vs. Bryan in his full blog and compared their chemistry to some of the all-time great in-ring rivals.

-Ross on Sheamus vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Alberto Del Rio: "The Fatal Fourway at OTL was another outstanding outing where all four performers had their 'moments' and the match had many momentum swings. Sheamus is a big, tough lad who is getting more popular by the week and because of his tireless work ethic the Irishman deserves all the success that's coming his way. I enjoy Sheamus a great deal because he comes to work with a lunch pail mentality and appears to truly enjoy physicality."

Powell's POV: This was my second favorite match on the Over The Limit pay-per-view. I'll have plenty to say about it in my WWE Over The Limit pay-per-view Hitlist coming up shortly.

-Ross on Christian: "Congrats to Christian for winning the IC Title. The Canadian veteran is considered by some to be one of the more underrated stars in WWE and without a doubt can have a good to great match with a long list of in ring talents. Plus, Christian is a real positive inside the locker room. It just seems as if it were yesterday when I signed both Christian and Edge to WWE contracts and now Edge is retired and in the WWE HOF and, hopefully, Christian will earn the same accolade some day."

Powell's POV: It was nice to see Christian return after a long layoff. I didn't care for the way he turned babyface without explanation, but the good news is that they made his return memorable.

Other topics include more on the WWE Over The Limit pay-per-view matches, Ross working on the C.M. Punk DVD, the date of Punk's first tryout match with WWE, hardcore wrestling, and more.
