Jim Ross comments on something missing with younger talent, WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin's latest project, and could a WrestleMania be held in London?
Feb 10, 2012 - 09:35 AM |
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights. To order J.R.'s BBQ products, visit WWEShop.com.
-Ross on one thing missing with some of the younger talent: "They aren't hungry enough or willing to challenge a top star for their spot on the roster. Too many talents are content to not make 'waves' and to live quietly and somewhat financially comfortable within their comfort zones. I can assure you that the comfort zone complex is the kiss of death in most organizations and businesses and is not exclusive to sports entertainment."
Powell's POV: I wonder how much of that can be attributed to the "don't rock the boat" mentality that management fosters. Guys who have been with the company for years walk on eggshells, and most newcomers are made to feel even more paranoid. C.M. Punk seems to be the exception to the rule. It worked for him, but how many times did the company come close to wishing him the best in his future endeavors?
-Ross on whether WrestleMania could take place in London: "For the record, I have no idea where future WrestleMania's will or will not take place. I do know that the event must be LIVE in North America on a Sunday night at 7 eastern time. Not on tape delay but LIVE as it happens. So, with that said, it would seem that a WrestleMania originating from London is unlikely due to the time difference."
Powell's POV: I know plenty of fans would be more than happy to stay up all night if it meant attending WrestleMania in London so that it could air at the usual time in the United States. However, I don't see WWE banking that enough London fans would be willing to do that. It would make for a hell of an atmosphere if you ask me.
-Ross on Steve Austin: "Steve Austin called today to shoot the breeze and is about to head to Vancouver to film another action adventure film. I assume it will be released at the end of the year or early next year. I don't know the story line other than Steve said that he had several fight scenes."
Powell's POV: Austin was wronged by an evil dude. Austin has to go through henchmen in order to get to said evil dude. Austin walks away victorious about 90 minutes after he was wronged. Okay, that's just a guess. He's come a long way as an actor and his straight to DVD flicks are better than most of the WWE Studios releases.
Other topics include Andy Kaufman and the WWE Hall of Fame, Shawn Michaels returning to Raw, Nick Diaz failing a drug test, and Rock's mindset heading into WrestleMania 28.
