Dot Net Exclusive: Update on Smackdown lead writer Michael Hayes, who served a 60-day suspension for using a racial slur
Jul 28, 2008 - 05:13 PM

Michael Hayes has taken an "all business" approach since returning from the 60-day suspension for using a racial slur during a conversation with Mark Henry. WWE officials made it clear that they will not tolerate his drinking, and he has told friends that he is taking Antabuse, a medication that will make a person violently ill if they consume alcohol.

"He looks healthier," noted one backstage observer. "His eyes are clear and he seems rested." As previously noted, Hayes lost his title of senior vice president and the stock privileges that came with it. However, he was reinserted into the lead writer position he occupied before the suspension.

Powell's POV: Despite losing his title, Hayes remains one of the most powerful creative forces in the company. With Stephanie McMahon-Levesque on maternity leave, the McMahon family is leaning on him and Raw lead writer Brian Gewirtz. Hayes went through an outpatient alcohol program while he was serving his suspension. It's encouraging to hear that the negative situation has turned into a positive in the sense that he's dealing with his alcohol issues.
