WWE Survivor Series onsite report: A second in-person perspective review of the MSG experience, notes on The Rock, John Cena, Zack Ryder, John Morrison, Big Show, and more
Nov 21, 2011 - 03:55 PM

Dot Net reader Jeebz attended the WWE Survivor Series event at WWE Survivor Series on Sunday and sent the following notes.

A few cop buddies and I attended the show last night at MSG. I'm sure its been stated a million times before but its true that MSG crowds are the best around, and the Survivor Series crowd continued that belief.

We arrived around 7:15-ish and all the craziness was in full effect outside The Garden. Its incredible how over CM Punk and Zack Ryder are, as all you saw walking in were C.M. Punk t-shirts, and all you heard were chants of "Woo Woo Woo."

We got to our seats for the start of the show, as we were seated right by the right side of the stage. The arena was full from top to bottom. John Laurinaitis came out and the Garden immediately tore him up with chants of "We can't hear you!" Seriously, you couldn't hear a damn word he said.

John Morrison was introduced and man, did the crowd let him have it. The boos and chants of "We Want Ryder!" were louder than his music. The opposite came for Ziggler, as the crowd cheered him on when he came out. Gotta love NYC. All you heard from that point on were more Ryder chants. Great match, though.

When Ryder finally came out after the match, the place went absolutely nuts. This guy seriously has made a name for himself and its all paying off now.

The Survivor Series tag match was fun. No, I won't talk about the Divas match because I ran out of beer and I couldn't have picked a better time to get it. Anyways, Cody Rhodes was really over, as was Wade Barrett and, of course, Randy Orton. Basically, anything involving Mason Ryan ended up with a "Batista" chant.

The Sin Cara spot with him getting hurt looked horrible from where we were sitting. The ref threw up the X and at that point, you knew something was up. The personnel looked like they had no idea what to do as a bunch of people ran to help him. You could see him smacking the floor numerous times yelling for help. He needed a lot of assistance getting to the back. I mean seriously, this guy has been a huge bust for the company and this spot just might have made them realize it for sure.

Before the Mark Henry vs. Big Show match, the ring was being reinforced with straps and some other belts so it would stay in place this time. Not sure if they showed that part on TV or not.

This match was a fun one for anyone who attended the show and I'm not necessarily talking about the wrestling part of it. Anything the crowd could chant about Mark Henry's past was used. These included: "Sexual Chocolate," "D-Lo Brown," "Ahmed Johnson," "Mae Young," "Where's The Hand?," "Daniel Bryan," "HBK," "We Want Jericho," and "Y2J" were being thrown out there. Ridiculous stuff. The crowd popped huge for the barricade spot and Big Show's 60-second elbow drop from the top. Lots of Randy Savage chants after that one.

When Howard Finkel was introduced as the special announcer for C.M. Punk, the crowd went nuts. Punk is over huge at MSG. It was complete insanity the reaction he got when he won the belt. Great match, as he and Del Rio work great together in the ring.

Maybe The Rock is an OCD freak or something, but a new ring mat was put down for the main event. The crew folded up the old one and tossed it underneath the ring. Who knows?

It was night and day with The Rock and John Cena. The boos were out of this world for Cena as anything he did would get the crowd on him. The Rock looked great in the ring and honestly hasn't lost a step. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand as chants of "Don't tag Cena!" filled the Garden.

After it was all said and done, Rock made a speech to the crowd about how special this night was to him and how this was the greatest moment of his career. To cap the night off, chants of "We Want Ryder" again broke out. Rock spoke about how he too has become a fan of Zack Ryder and didn't realize how tall he was in person. He said he was all about the "Woo Woo Woo" and wished him luck. It was a hilarious speech and I'm sure someone out there took a video of it (editor's note: the video is available on the main page).

Overall, it was a good show. The Garden crowd was crazy hot from beginning to end. However, you couldn't understand a single backstage segment that was being played on the screen. The new MSG looks great and is only going to get better looking.

-Zack Ryder
-Randy Orton
-Howard Finkel
-Big Show off the top rope

-Vickie Guerrero
-John Laurinaitis
