2011 WWE Hall of Fame: Full coverage of the ceremony featuring the inductions of Shawn Michaels, The Road Warriors, Sunny, Jim Duggan, Abdullah the Butcher, Bob Armstrong, and Drew Carey
Apr 2, 2011 - 09:55 PM

The following are live notes sent in by Dot Net readers Agahzi, Nick Johnson, Rob Ramsey, Nick Tant, Robert Spencer, and others. If you are at the ceremony and would like to contribute, send updates to dotnetjason@gmail.com.

There are warning signs all over the building to warn fans that inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. The signs warn that poor behavior will lead to an immediate ejection from the ceremony.

Ric Flair entered the arena and arrived to "Woooo" chants. "Very warm welcome for the now TNA talent," Johnson wrote. JBL, Steve Austin, and Kevin Nash were also in attendance.

Host Jerry Lawler opened the ceremony. He mentioned Hulk Hogan, which received a negative reaction from the crowd. Lawler said that there is only one person who bleeds red, white, and blue - "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan.

Jim Duggan inducted by Ted DiBiase:

"The Million Dollar Man" told stories of Duggan being a star athlete in high school and being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. He then told stories of Duggan in Georgia Championship Wrestling. He talked about Duggan beating cancer and then introduced him.

Duggan talked about his career starting with a chance meeting with Fritz Von Erich. He talked about working through the territories and being mentored by guys like Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody and Dibiase. His greatest honor was wrestling Andre in the main event at MSG. He thanked his family and then cut a promo on the terrorists and closed out with a HOOO!!!!!

Bob Armstrong inducted by sons Brian (Road Dogg), Scott, and Brad:

It was a very short introduction, and Brian, who was in Road Dogg persona, did the talking. "Great set buy Road Dogg for his dad," Robert wrote. "Bob was short and sweet."

Agahzi wrote: Lawler introduced Road Dogg, Scott, and Brad Armstrong. Dogg did his schtick and then thanked the WWE for all they've done for his family. He then gave his dad a special Road Dogg intro. Bullet Bob talked about how his wife held the family together. He then talked about growing up watching Gorgeous George and how he inspired him to get into wrestling. He hot choked up and thanked everyone.

Tammy "Sunny" Sytch inducted by WWE Divas:

All of the Divas handled the introduction of Sunny. LayCool were over the top nice while introducing her, according to Robert. They called her the original Diva that started it all.

Agahzi wrote: LayCool led the Divas out to bring out Sunny. They actually paid homage to Sunny as a groundbreaking Diva. LayCool wasn't believable being so nice. Sunny came out, looked at the Divas, and said, "Look what I started." Ugh. She told stories about watching wrestling as a kid and following her boyfriend Chris Candido to Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Big pop for Candido!

She talked about Jim Cornette giving her an opportunity. She talked about getting a call from WWE and thinking it was for Chris, but it was for her. She talked about auditioning and getting the job hosting Live Event Weekend as Tamara Murphy. From there she talked about the formation of the Sunny character. She talked managing a bunch of tag team champions. She said tonight puts the debate to rest over who The Original Diva is. She then thanked her family.

Abdullah the Butcher inducted by Terry Funk:

Nick Johnson wrote: Short speech by Abdullah. Great to see an "Abdullah" chant go down. He mentioned that the man upstairs takes care of him. Also, those gnarly cuts on his forehead seem larger in person. Road Warriors are next... still no Drew Carey? Expecting huge heat.

Agahzi wrote: Lawler introduced Terry Funk, who said he and his brother Dory had a hate/love relationship with Abdullah the Butcher. They hated to wrestle him because of the pain, but loved to go to the bank after cause Abby always put people in the seats. He talked about all the different places Abby "forked" him. He called Abdullah a genius saying he made brutality beautiful. Terry said he made so much money with Abby he'd marry him if he could.

Abdullah talked about getting a call from Johnny Ace, who told him he was being inducted. He broke down wishing his parents and brother were alive. Huge "Abdullah" chant. He had his fork with him. Abby thanked God and left. The crowd was really into him. Short speech.

The Road Warriors inducted by Dusty Rhodes:

Nick Johnson wrote: Dusty Rhodes's accent gets me every time. He said the Road Warriors electrified the entire "woryurled." Hawk reminds him of a lyric of a song - "only the good die young." He mentioned the illustrious scaffold match with the Midnight Express - and remembered in slow motion the throwing of Jim Cornette off scaffold. He mentioned Animal was a leader, and one of the strongest men he has ever been around. Great speech by the American Dream.

L.O.D. chants = nostalgia. Animal did most of the talking, both praised Hawk. Paul Ellering was rocking the shades and his poetic persona. Animal mentioned that he and Hawk firmly believed that they were only as good as the guys they worked with. He praised the boys. Animal mentioned that he and Hawk both fed off each other. An old school Hawk figure placed on the panel and was then shown on the Titantron followed by applause and "LOD" chants. Good, long, heart-felt speech. RIP Hawk.

Snooki's match was shown on the Tron afterward. Huge heat for Snooki, as expected.

Agahzi wrote: Dusty Rhodes came out to induct the Road Warriors. He talked about how the Road Warriors are a big part of why today's performer are able to do what they love. He talked about Paul Ellering's guidance. He talked about Hawk and said only the good die young. He talked about the famous scaffold match with the Midnight Express. He talked Animal being a great family man. He called them the greatest tag team ever.  Dusty gave a great nod to Hawk, then brought out Ellering and Animal. Dusty was tremendous!

Animal talked about Dusty helping them out early on. Animal said he'd trade in all of his championships for the Hall of Fame. Ellering told another story about Hawk. Animal told another story about breaking into the business. He thanked his family and broke down in tears. Ellering thanked his family as only he could. He talked about the day Hawk died. Animal thanked "the boys" past and present. Animal said some special words about his connection with Hawk. Ellering put a Hawk action figure on the podium. Loud "LOD" chant. They closed out with "What A Rush."

Drew Carey inducted by Kane:

Agahzi wrote: Kane inducted Drew Carey. Boos for Carey, who told a few bad jokes but then put over the WWE superstars as the greatest athletes alive. That was it. Lots of boos.

Nick Johnson wrote: Here comes the heat!!! Boo's during the Carey video montage. Kane inducted Drew Carey. Kane looked more frightening than ever in a tux - just saying. Drew's comedy seemed to lighten up the heat somewhat. The crowd was not showing the same respect for Drew as the other inductees, which is to be expected.

Drew stated to the crowd to go ahead and boo, he doesn't care. He stated that he's a handsome, rich guy who needs his share of boos. The crowd to seem to lighten up somewhat toward the end of the speech. Take that for what it's worth. Huge Cena heat during a video montage of he and The Rock. Is it me, or does it seem like the Champion, The Miz is the third wheel in this main event?

Shawn Michaels inducted by Triple H:

Nick Johnson wrote: Good applause for The Game, who came out to his 2006 WrestleMania theme - "King of Kings." A lot of comedic sayings in his speech. He mentioned that he can't talk about The Kliq days in a PG environment - a lot of laughs from the audience. He mentioned and joked about Michaels's Playgirl shoot. He mentioned Michaels's "google" eye, in which could roughly in text be translated to (   •)(• )

Michaels came out to the sold out arena on it's feet in appreciation. "HBK" chants followed shortly after the music stopped. Michaels kided about the cat-calling from the crowd, saying that he's nervous and it's breaking his concentration and to notice that he doesn't have a sheet with him. He said that he knows that it would be good TV if someone had a nervous breakdown, but to help him out.

Michaels mentioned that he's very thankful for all the other inductees and Hunter - Michaels teared up and stated that he lives for this. He mentioned the Undertaker's statement that he would be walking into the HOF with regrets. He said if were 1998 that might have been true. Michaels said that there was a name he should thank and that he couldn't mention it - the crowd then did the "Woo" chants.

Shawn thanked God and his family for being so selfless while he was on the road. He thanked the WWE superstars for being so patient with him. He thanked them for letting him being apart of that fraternity. Lastly, he thanked the WWE Universe, saying that we as fans have been apart of his life, his family. He stated he doesn't know if the fans were connected to him over the years, but that he felt connected to us. He exited with DX music. A true legend humbled for the life he has had. Kliq members, Kevin Nash and Sean Waltman joined Triple H and Michaels after the speech.

Agahzi wrote: Triple H inducted HBK. Hunter told a few jokes about Shawn and then listed some of Shawn's greatest matches. He then talked about how Shawn had to take four years off from injury and was able to come back on pay-per-view and give Hunter one of his greatest matches. He talked about DX. He said he can't talk about DX in a PG era. Hunter said HBK refuses to take his place in the Hulk Hogan hairclub for men. He made fun of Shawn's crossed eye. Hilarious. Hunter then broke down and talked about how Shawn is his brother. He introduced Shawn, who came out to a massive standing ovation.

Shawn made a few jokes about Hunter. Shawn begged the crowd not to catcall so he wouldn't forget what he had to say. He talked about being 19 years old and wanting to just be able to wrestle in front of 25 people. He talked about the majority of his career being a search for approval from peers and fans. He said if this was 1998 he'd have regrets about retiring. He said today he has none. He thanked his family, the fans, and his peers. After he finished, Diesel and X-Pac came out for a Kliq celebration
