2/8 WWE Smackdown taping results: A detailed report on the taping for Friday's television show featuring appearances by Green Bay Packers (spoilers)
Feb 9, 2011 - 09:32 AM

Dot Net reader Kyle attended the WWE Smackdown taping in Green Bay, Wisc. on Tuesday and passed along the following report.

Right before the Smackdown taping started, the Packer players in attendance were led to their seats right behind the announce table. In attendance were Clay Matthews, Tom Crabtree, Matt Wilhelm, Scott Wells, Graham Harrell, and Bryan Bulaga. Each of them had a World Heavyweight belt given to them by WWE.

Smackdown started with Alberto Del Rio talking about destiny. Kofi Kingston came out and talked smack and threatened del rio with a kendo stick. Kofi eventually hit Del Rio with a kendo stick and destroyed an in-ring setup, which led to a match.

1. Alberto Del Rio defeated Kof Kingston. Del Rio won by submission via armbar.

2. Justin Gabriel defeated Vladimir Kozlov. The match was ok. Gabriel won with a 450 splash. At one point during match, Heath Slater tripped Kozlov, and Santino hit Slater with The Cobra outside the ring. After the match was done, The Corre put a couple finishers on Kozlov and Santino, no "dog pack" beat down.

3. Drew McIntyre defeated Chris Masters. McIntyre said that it was all Edge's fault that Kelly Kelly was fired last week. He said this match was for her. They had some okay exchanges, and McIntyre won via the Future Shock DDT.

They went to a shot of Laycool talking backstage. Michelle said she should be Divas Champion and the refs got it wrong at Royal Rumble. Layla looked and said, "Don't you mean WE should be Divas Champion?" It looked like there may have been some tension. Vickie came out of her locker room and said that they needed to take control of what they wanted, like she was doing with Dolph Ziggler tonight.

4. Eve defeated Layla (w/Michelle McCool. LayCool came out to some heat. I couldn't really see how it ended due to some drunk idiots in front of us (one of them was escorted out during the main event, I might add).

5. Wade Barrett defeated Rey Mysterio. Pretty decent heat for Barrett, and Mysterio had a big pop. No Corre members were ringside. Barrett said that beating Mysterio is part of the plan of The Corre, blah blah blah. They had a good match with a lot of action. Barrett ended up winning via The Wasteland finisher.

The Corre members then came down and they had a beatdown of Mysterio, and then Big Show came down and cleaned some house. Ezekiel Jackson broke up a double chokeslam attempt, and The Corre beat up on Show for a bit. Zeke actually suplexed the Big Show, and it was quite a sight. They posed over Big Show for a bit and left.

6. Kane beat JTG in a squash match. Kane dominated and won via chokeslam.

7. Edge defeated Dolph Ziggler with Vickie Guerrero as special referee to retain the World Hvt. Championship. Edge came out to huge pop. Ziggler came out to a lot of heat. When he got to the ring, Vickie came out to MASSIVE heat. Tony Chimel started to announce the match participants and Vickie took the mic out of his hand and did some talking. I couldn't hear everything she said because the booing was overpowering. She did say that the spear was still banned, and Ziggler would become champion if Edge used it.

The match was back and forth. Ziggler had control early on and had a couple near falls, which Vickie tried counting quickly. At one point, Edge had a nearfall and Vickie counted to two, then put Dolph's leg on the rope for a rope break. Eventually, both guys were on the ground, and Vickie went to a corner and started pulling her hair back and taunting Edge to get up (basically doing the same thing he does right before the spear). When Edge got up, Vickie ran at him and attempted a spear, but bounced right off his chest and she fell over. She played that she had hurt her leg, and a trainer came over and got her out of the ring.

While the trainer was working on her, Edge speared Ziggler and went for a pinfall, but there was no ref to count. after that, the crowd started chanting "We Want Clay!" in reference to Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, who they realized was not in his seat behind the announce table. Edge then speared Ziggler again. All hell broke loose. Clay Matthews walked onto the ramp wearing a WWE referee shirt. He walked to the ring, and did the three count for Edge to retain his title. The crowd went INSANE when Matthews walked out...he even had the championship belt that WWE had given to the packer players.

After what will show on TV, Matthews and Edge had the rest of the Packer players in attendance and their families in the ring. They all had their belts and celebrated and the crowd went nuts. Edge talked about how the ring was full of World Champions. Edge and the players went back up the stage and left.

Ziggler was still on the floor by the ring. He pulled himself up and started talking smack about how the Packers suck and that they cheated to win the Super Bowl, and then cracking jokes about Green Bay itself. Edge then snuck in and speared Ziggler yet another time to send the crowd home happy. Tony Chimel thanked the fans for coming, and that was that.

Best Pop:
Clay Matthews and the Packers players
Edge
Mysterio

Most Heat:
Vickie (by far)
Ziggler
The Corre after the Big Show/Mysterio beat down

Notes: Overall, the crowd really wasn't as into the matches as they were when Raw was in Green Bay a few months back. They seemed more interested in cheering the Packers that were in attendance. Beyond the three listed under pop and heat, there was very little pop or heat for any of the other superstars.

Chris masters did get a huge reception during NXT when he put on the cheesehead and kept calling Ziggler "turd," but that was about it. Pretty mediocre Smackdown show overall, with the exception of the amazing end. WWE was very smart to incorporate the Packers Super Bowl victory into the show.
