WWE Judgment Day on-site report: Hanging with Mike Adamle after the show, dark match result

Dot Net reader Tyler Roney sent the following notes after viewing the WWE Judgment Day pay-per-view in person on Sunday night.
This was my first time to a pay per view event and it was an overall wonderful show to attend. If the show wasn’t sold out, it was damn close. There were random scattered empty seats but they were few and far between. That’s a good sign for WWE in Omaha, for sure.
Dark Match
1. Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes defeated Santino Marella and Carlito to retain the WWE Tag Titles. The crowd was pretty hot for Holly/Rhodes the entire time, and this match was just to get everyones appetite wet for the show basically, so nothing too special here.
Live Show
We go to the introductions of the announcers, and as you expected, there were heavy pops for everyone except Mike Adamle. Poor guy, he is getting better, but still doesn’t connect with the fans yet. The introduction video cues up and the pyros go off and the crowd explodes. We’re live in Omaha for Judgment Day 2008.
The first contest of the evening saw JBL taking on John Cena. Let me say that when John Cena came out, the crowd went absolutely crazy. I didn’t hear as many boos as I normally do watching the broadcasts at home, so it’s fair to say Cena was pretty well liked this evening. The match was decent, I noticed some boring chants in the middle of it, but Cena pulled out the win and it made (most of) the crowd happy.
The crew down below began setting up for John Morrison’s entrance. They use a couple of fans incase anyone didn’t know. The second contest of the evening was set to begin as it was Morrison and Miz defending their WWE Tag Team Titles against CM Punk and Kane. This match was pretty good as well, with the crowd being pro-Kane/Punk the entire time. There were a few Miz/Morrison fans (I was one of them although I like Kane and Punk as well). As the ending was getting set up, the crowd began to get upset and it showed when Morrison and Miz retained.
A video package began to air featuring the history of Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels that got us to Judgment Day tonight. Both men got pops when they entered and throughout their entire match it was a pretty mixed reaction which I’d say it was 55 percent Jericho, 45 percent Michaels (at least from where I was sitting). The handshake at the end definitely made it popular with all the fans. A lot of fans were also chanting for Batista three-fourths of the way through the match which I was glad he did not come out and interrupt this awesome and intense match, so younger fans were confused about where Batista was.
The Women’s championship match was next, and it saw Mickie James defeat Melina and Beth Phoenix in a triple threat match. Mickie was as I’m sure all of you expected to be the most over with the fans, although, the fans flipped when Beth held Mickie and Melina up in that move for awhile, which was pretty intense no doubt about that. Nice to see Mickie retain, though.
By this point, we were wondering if we were going to see Mark Henry vs. Big Show since it had been rumored, but it was not the case. The crew began laying down the black carpeting stuff on the stage and getting the pyros ready as they showed the Undertaker and Edge video package to the fans around the world watching. They also set the Title on the pedestal in the ring and polished the glass off around it.
Edge entered to mainly boos but there were still a fair number of Edgeheads in the arena. Undertaker of course had another jaw-dropping entrance which gave anyone in attendance goosebumps. I thought this match was really good for this being their third one in the last 3 months now. The crowd was of course Pro-Taker the whole time. As soon as Undertaker clotheslined Edge over the barrier, we began wondering if it was going to end in a double countout.
When Undertaker entered the ring at the nine count, the crowd erupted with excitement. I began thinking to myself no, we have to see a Vickie Guerrero appearance and have her inform us you can’t win the title on a countout and of course that’s what happened. For the record, I have been to many wrestling shows before and when Vickie came out, I have never seen the amount of heat and heard the intense amount of boos in my entire life. The decision was very unpopular with the fans and now we must tune into Friday Night Smackdown to see what will happen with the title.
Next, MVP came out which really was confusing to the crowd as we didn’t know why he was coming out, but he informed us and wanted an opponent. We saw the crew setting up pyros on the stage during this, so we figured perhaps this is will be Big Show’s match instead, but as soon as Matt Hardy came out, we knew it had to be his brother Jeff Hardy. Jeff was really over with the fans for sure, and there were a couple MVP fans in attendance as well. Saw Jeff getting the 1-2-3 for this one, which made the fans happy.
The cage began to lower and we were getting ready for the WWE Championship cage match. Randy Orton came out , and the crowd was mainly stagnate, they pretty much booed Orton, but it wasn’t intense booing. The coolest thing was setting Orton pose on top of the cage by far. Triple H entered to a massive roar from the crowd, and we were underway. The match for awhile was pretty slow with Orton doing some of the same stuff over and over, which didn’t settle well with the fans. Once the chase began with Triple H trying to get Orton back into the cage, they lured the fans back in. After close encounter endings, Triple H hit the pedigree to another roar from the crowd and the fans went nuts for a Triple H retain.
Notes
I thought the show was a really good one to see live. The matches weren’t of course stacked or by all means 5/5, but it was still an intense pay per view of good wrestling and entertainment. One thing I was shocked to see was the amount of babyfaces that walked out of the pay per view winners. Besides the Undertaker and Edge countout finish and Miz/Morrison’s victory, it was a send the fans home happy show for sure. After the show went off the air, Triple H posed for a bit then took off up the rampway. They cued up Orton’s new theme song and it played for a good 5-7 minutes before he took off, and he looked upset the entire time. He stared at a few fans for quite awhile which was humorous. Announcers all took off, and Lillian Garcia thanked us for coming out.
More after the show notes, I saw Mike Adamle walk beside me outside the Qwest Center and almost biff it on the sidewalk. I asked him if it was really Mike and he said yes it was and I asked for a picture and he was very friendly about that and we talked for a while. He asked how I liked the show and I said I really enjoyed it and that I would be in Des Moines for the Smackdown/ECW tapings this coming Tuesday and he said I can’t wait to see you there. This guy is really cool, despite your opinion of him.
