WWE News
Jim Ross comments on visiting WWE developmental headquarters, Jeff Hardy, and Jake Roberts
May 16, 2008 - 07:24 PM

Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.

-Ross on his trip to WWE developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling: "I don’t think the WWE has any aspect of their business that is more important than the development of new stars. Problem is, stars don’t grow on trees. Athletes either have 'it' or they don’t and 'it' can’t be manufactured. As time goes on, we will all see how many of these hard working young kids discover if they have 'it' or not. Nonetheless, the WWE has some exciting, young people working diligently to learn their craft in hopes of some day being the main event at Wrestlemania. That’s how I look at this process. If one is wanting to make it to the Promised Land of one of the three rosters, with the opportunity to earn big cash, appear on weekly TV and their goal is not to want to headline ‘Mania, then they need to update their resumes."

Powell's POV: I was hoping J.R. would give us the lowdown on a few wrestlers who stood out, but I suppose he's in a tough spot in that he doesn't want anyone to feel snubbed and/or doesn't want to inflate anyone's ego. Ross is known as a big backer of the developmental territory. The system cranked out some huge stars when he was in charge of talent relations and only time will tell whether the current crop of developmental stars will go on to biggger and better things.

-Ross on Jeff Hardy returning to WWE: "Great to see Jeff Hardy, or is it Harvey, back on Monday Night Raw. Arguably, Jeff got as loud and as enthusiastic reception from the Raw fans in Detroit as any one who appeared on the broadcast from where I was sitting. Jeff is a major star waiting to happen and let’s hope all the stars are aligned properly to where that story can be told. Many factors go into this evolution to get to the very top of the food chain but none more important than the talent himself. That’s not a Jeff Hardy exclusive, but goes for everyone."

Powell's POV: Jeff has a lot of people cheering for him. He's a special performer and I've yet to speak to anyone who had a negative thing to say about him as a person. There will be a lot of disappointed people if he strikes out.

-Ross on Jake Roberts: "I hear that Jake Roberts has been doing well the past few weeks, after completing a treatment program, which is great news. I have known Jake for years, since he was a really young man, and his mind for wrestling and wrestling psychology specifically is a gift. Just thinking out loud here, but I wonder what sort of wrestling manager Jake would make in he were in the right environment with the right talent?"

Powell's POV: Great to hear Jake is doing well. He's one of the best talkers every in my opinion, and I think he'd be a great talker for anyone he managed.

Other topics include John Cena, Dusty Rhodes, and The Funk Brothers.
