WWE's Jim Ross comments on Nick Hogan's sentence and Hulk Hogan's do-rag, claims Jonathan Coachman has not signed with ESPN
May 11, 2008 - 11:50 PM

Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.

-Ross on Nick Bollea being sentenced to eight months in county jail: "The question has been raised since the sentencing if the penalty for Nick Bollea was strong enough. My first instinct was to say, 'yes.' Then my wife asked me what if the victim had been one of our granddaughters and I had to re-think my original statement. Just like in sports entertainment, when one makes an emotional investment in an issue, the issue generally takes on a whole different light. Still, in hindsight, I don’t think Nick Bollea got off too lightly."

Powell's POV: J.R.'s wife makes a good point. I'm sure I would feel differently if one of my family members or friends were in John Graziano's position. Honestly, though, with so many celebrities avoiding jail time for their crimes, I'm just impressed that Nick received a sentence similar to what any other person would receive if they committed a similar act while underage.

-Ross on Hulk Hogan wearing a do-rag in court. "Another point, Hulk should have lost the do-rag, without question, in the court room. Staying in an '80s character, 'brother,' was questionable judgment and it made Hulk come off looking as if he were in performing mode. The doo-rag was distracting and not in a good way."

Powell's POV: No argument on that one. I've spoken to several people who said the same thing about Hogan appearing to be in performing mode. Ross has a lot to say about Nick and the entire situation. It's a good read and I'm just skimming the surface of his comments, so I encourage you to read his full commentary.

-Ross on reports that Jonathan Coachman has signed with ESPN. "Jonathan Coachman has not signed a contract with ESPN contrary to what may have been reported elsewhere. As I write this, Coach is still employed by the WWE and is still doing projects for the MSG Network. Will Coach eventually migrate to ESPN? Who knows, he would be a great fit there, but as of today he has not made any commitment to do so."

Powell's POV: I'm not sure what to make of this one. The story that Coach had been hired by ESPN was first reported elsewhere online last week. Stay tuned.

Other topics include the WWE Hall of Fame, Steve Austin, and some of J.R.'s pet peeves.
