Jim Ross comments on announcing with Paul Heyman, fond WWE Raw memories, and Cody Rhodes
Aug 25, 2010 - 07:11 PM |
By Rich Twilling
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.
-Ross on working with Paul Heyman: "Working with Heyman was always unpredictable and exhilarating as Paul always knew what buttons to push to elicit the most organic of responses out of me. Heyman was a natural, antagonist broadcaster who embraced his role and did it well. Very well."
Twill's Two Cents: The natural differences between Ross and Heyman made for some very uncomfortable and always entertaining moments. I still remember fondly the short time Heyman took over for Jerry Lawler in 2001.
-Ross on his friend, Skandor Akbar: "In my over four decades in the wrestling biz, I don't think I can name one man who unselfishly done more to help young wrestlers and who was more dedicated to his profession that Jim Wehba aka General Scandor Akbar."
Twill's Two Cents: Ross is the only person I have seen spelling the name 'Scandor' and not 'Skandor.' Minor thing. Ross wrote a fantastic blog noting his history with Akbar and for those people not too familiar with Akbar, or those who appreciate old school wrestling, it is a must read.
-Ross on Cody Rhodes: "Cody Rhodes did a fine job on Syfy's Warehouse 13 Tuesday night which is the first time that I had ever watched the program. Cody looked extremely buffed in his 'extra medium' shirt especially compared to the other actors on the program. Cody's recent work on NXT has been very positive in my view."
Twill's Two Cents: I'm sure the goal of having Cody on the show was to get a lot of first time viewers. I didn't catch the show, but I have really enjoyed Cody's performances on NXT and his current character.
-Other topics include memories of Monday Night Raw, further thoughts of Skandor Akbar, and the Little League World Series, in which Ross said the kids should not being throwing curveballs. As a baseball guy, I can tell you he is 100% correct.
