WWE News: Linda McMahon featured on ABC's "Nightline" television show, asked whether WWE shifted to PG because of her political campaign
Aug 9, 2010 - 11:02 PM

Linda McMahon was featured on Monday's ABC's "Nightline" television show. They showed footage of Vince McMahon undressed in a backstage angle, Stephanie McMahon slapping Linda, and Linda drinking a beer with Steve Austin.

Interviewer Bill Weir asked if it was fair to look at WWE to determine how Linda would govern if elected senator. She said it's fair to look at the business side of the company. While acting as the narrator, Weir brought up the fact that wrestlers don't have health insurance and mentioned the steroid issue.

Weir asked Linda about the the premature death rate in WWE, which was addressed earlier today on the site. He also asked her about stating previously that testing for steroids was not cost effective. They also aired WWE footage and noted that WWE has toned things down.

Weir mentioned Stephanie being serenaded with "slut" chants. He asked if Linda is ever creeped out by her own product. She said it's a soap opera, and admitted there are "some storylines that are better than others."

Weir pressed her on whether the company switched to PG for her campaign. "My political ambitions had nothing to do with that," McMahon said. "The evolution of moving to PG was already underway before I even thought about it." Weir continued to press, but she shifted the focus to her campaign rather than WWE.

Weir asked whether she is interested in Sarah Palin's endorsement. Linda said she's concerned with people within her state, and has not sought out any outside endorsements. Linda said she thinks she would be running for office even if she wasn't wealthy. They closed the piece by noting that Linda leads her opponent Rob Simmons by 22 points heading into Tuesday's primary.

Powell's POV: Weir was aggressive with some of his questioning, but Linda never lost her composure. When she tired of answering WWE questions, she tried to get him to talk about the issues. Weir touched on the tough topics, but the overall piece was balanced.
