These are my confidence ratings of each competitor in the Raw version of the Money in the Bank ladder match that takes place on Sunday. The predictions are strictly opinions based on no inside information.
The Raw MITB match is a difficult match to choose a winner in because there can be so many possible scenarios that can be built for the three months of television. You are probably wondering why I said three months…my reason is because Smackdown moves to SyFy in October and it's possible that some of these guys will move to that brand to beef up the roster. They are saying the winner receives a shot at his brand's respective title, but it wouldn't be the first time they've changed things on the fly in pro wrestling.
Each competitor is listed according to my personal confidence rating of winning the MITB Match (the higher the confidence rating, the likely chance that they will win this match):
Chris Jericho (3rd appearance, Marv’s confidence rating- 8): Are you reading this and you are telling yourself that old Stone Cold saying, "What?" If you are, let me explain: Jericho has been underutilized on Raw since he moved to the brand via the draft and we have the Nexus angle going on. He still has a great relationship with his rookie and Nexus leader Wade Barrett, and he is my upset pick to win this match. His contract is expiring in the fall, so wouldn't be smart for WWE to have Jericho win this match (to keep him around longer) and/or let him have one more title reign before he decides to take another hiatus? Additionally, he can be revealed as the leader of the Nexus group? It’s a risky prediction, but I don't want the obvious pick. Remember, I had Swagger high in my WM confidence column and got ripped to shreds about it and...what happened days later? There is a method to Marv's madness…
Randy Orton (2nd appearance, Marv’s confidence rating -7): Orton is freaking white hot as a babyface and I wouldn't be surprised if WWE decides to have him win this match and have him cash in at Mania 27. I'm still rewinding the, spot of the year, "AiRKO" that he performed on Evan Bourne on Monday night. If there was one guy the crowd can get behind to make this MITB match memorable, take Orton with confidence. If I wasn't so high on Jericho, Orton would easily been the favorite.
The Miz (1st appearance, Marv’s confidence level - 6): The Miz is not only awesome, but he's ruthless! The Miz has the charisma to be a main event talent and he could easily be one of the guys that could be moved to Smackdown in the fall and become a top heel on the brand. Jericho, Sheamus, Edge are the top heels on Raw so it's pretty overcrowded. If he wins this match, he can take his briefcase to Smackdown and become the world champion. If they go that direction, they definitely need to make that show live because The Miz becoming a world champion would not only be awesome moment, but I would have to do an unannounced audio appearance.
Ted Dibiase (1st appearance, Marv’s confidence rating - 5): Ted Jr. is my dark horse in this matchup because if WWE goes in the same direction when it comes to pushing young stars, this maybe good enough to work. He has the beautiful valet in Maryse, the Million Dollar Belt (which I still love since his father had it in the '80s), and the gimmick can really work in his favor if he is bumped up to the main event level. The mid-card feuds (ala R-Truth and John Morrison) are not clicking, and he needs to get out while he can. If he doesn't win this match, he'll rot in the mid-card on Raw or possibly be moved to Smackdown in fall.
Edge (3rd appearance, Marv’s confidence rating - 4): Edge's promo on Monday night said a lot and he could easily win this match because he has cashed in successfully twice (Mania 21 and on SD in 2007 after he previously defeated Mr. Kennedy the night before). But to be perfectly honest, Edge winning this match would make me groan because he does not need to win MITB and he doesn't the title anymore. Therefore, I have him in the middle of the pack. I love Edge as a competitor, but he is past his prime and I'm sorry to say this (save the hate mail) but he will always be known for being one of WWE's true transitional champions. His longest title reign was roughly three-and-a-half months and the majority of his World Title reigns were three weeks! So why waste our time and have Edge win this match for the third time and basically take the belt off him in three weeks? Edge is too talented to bury him in the middle of this list, but it's hard to take him seriously as the "opportunistic" heel world champion with short ass title reigns.
Evan Bourne (2nd appearance, Marv’s confidence rating- 3): Bourne is talented and he has been getting a nice push the last month or so he could be another darkhorse in this match, but like I mentioned earlier, the RKO really tanked his stock as far as winning this match. I can't take him seriously winning this match for the following reasons: (1) He's small and if you are a wrestling enthusiast, you already know that Vince McMahon does not have faith in small guys (2) If Bourne were to win this match, he could be the first guy to cash in unsuccessfully (3) Every main eventer minus Cena has buried him or beat the crap out of him this year (i.e. Sheamus squashes, RKOs by Orton)
John Morrison (2th appearance, Marv’s confidence level - 2): If Morrison remained on Smackdown, he would easily be in my top four. But this match alone is so loaded and they way he is booked on Raw, he only has a puncher's chance of winning this match. This man is just not over as a babyface and his promos are atrocious at best. If you need an example, re-watch Raw this past week. Morrison has so much damn talent (ring wise) and really could have stayed on Smackdown and improved his promo work. Until something changes, JoMo is mid-card hell and he's sweating bullets.
Mark Henry (2nd appearance, Marv’s confidence level - 1): When this announcement was made, I'm pretty sure that 100 percent of you took a piss break. Why is Mark Henry in his second consecutive MITB match? They could've added someone like Zack Ryder to be serious but because they need to have an even number of babyfaces/heels and one minority (Henry), I guess this move had to be made. But everyone already knows that Henry has ZERO chance of winning this match. If Raw wants NXT ratings, take the idiot approach and have the Kool-Aid Man win this match. In all seriousness, he's just filler to a loaded matchup.
The Smackdown version of the MITB confidence rankings will be unveiled later this weekend. Shoot an email to mr.hermanstyne@gmail.com and we can discuss further. Check back on Sunday night for Dot Net live coverage of the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
