Great Khali discusses names that were pitched before he started in WWE, claims he can't afford a customized car
May 6, 2008 - 11:30 AM

Great Khali is featured in a BBC News article that reveals some of the names that were pitched prior to his WWE debut. He proposed the name Big Bhima, which is taken from an Indian movie. Giant Singh and Lord Shiva were rejected due to concerns that they would offend Indians. The story notes that Khali ended up taking his name from Kali, an Indian goddess with destructive powers.

Khali also claimed that he lives a modest lifestyle, yet he claimed he can't afford a customized car. "I have no fancy villa or cars," he said. "I live in a simple home and do not have the money to order a customized car that would fit my size."

Khali also claims that Americans had a hard time with his character at first. "Americans could not imagine someone from India in WWE," Khali said. "They are now actually having a lot of fun."

Powell's POV: Let me get this straight. WWE showed restraint and didn't want to offend Indians? I guess Michael Hayes must have been out of the office when that brainstorming session went down.

He can't afford a custom car even though he lives a modest lifestyle? I think this guy needs a new accountant given how long he's been working for WWE now. I'll let my fellow Americans determine whether they're having fun watching Khali wrestle. Me? I haven't had this much fun since El Gigante was tearing it up in WCW.

What did you think of WWE's Jeff Hardy "unconscious in a stairwell" storyline?
It was a brilliant final hook for the pay-per-view.
It was a turnoff, but it's par for the course with WWE.
It was one of the sleaziest stunts the company has ever done.
