WWE Smackdown Tapings

Chris Jericho out first to cut a promo. He said that Teddy Long is incompetent because he allowed a title shot to be given to Randy Orton when he's not even part of the Smackdown brand. He demanded the Teddy Long make him the number one contender for whoever won Randy vs. Jack Swagger.

Edge came out to interrupt Jericho. He said that he's not sure Jericho is in any condition to compete for the title after the amount of spears he has taken lately. Edge said that he agrees with Jericho when he says that the title should be kept on Smackdown. Teddy Long's makes his way out and says that he is the one who makes the matches. He said that Jericho will get his wish and have his title match tonight. Just as Jericho started to say that Teddy was finally doing the right thing, Teddy announced Swagger vs Jericho vs Edge for later tonight. Jericho was mad. Edge was all smiles.

Drew McIntyre comes out to a lot of heat although I suspect thats only because he is Scottish. He cuts a short promo saying that he knows that people don't like him but he doesn't care.

1. Drew McIntyre defeated Kane by DQ. There are 'we hate Scotland' chants which kinda pisses me off cause I'm Scottish, but then I laugh at their football chants because they come of sounding like they are handicapped. An average match that ended when McIntyre dodged a chokeslam and left the ring. Matt Hardy came from behind and attacked him before throwing him back in the ring. This caused the DQ. Kane gave McIntyre and Hardy chokeslams.

2. Dolph Ziggler defeated R-Truth. The crowd was into Truth's entrance but then sat on their hands for him during the match. Ziggler won with the sleeper after Truth missed the Lie Detector.

3. Michelle McCool (w/Layla, Vickie Guerrero) defeated Mickie James. Typical divas match, i.e. toilet break. ZERO reaction for McCool. I'm sorry but I honestly can't remember what move Michelle used to win, but i know that Layla interfered. Thats how much attention I was paying to the match. Afterward, Laycool started to put the boots to Mickie when Beth Phoenix made the save. Laycool escaped through the crowd.

4. The Hart Dynasty and Rey Mysterio defeated CM Punk, Luke Gallows and Darren Young. An okay match, but too much of the ring time was for Gallows and the Harts which is personally boring for me. CM Punk was getting a lot of positive chants for him during the match. I wonder if they will edit those out? The match ended with Rey doing the 619 around the ring post on Punk, then DH Smith doing a running powerslam for the pin.

5. JTG defeated Caylen Croft. Sleep of the the night by far. The "dudebusters" are so bad and life sapping its unreal. Shad was at ringside for the match. JGT won with whatever his dice roll finisher is called. Shad attacked JTG afterward with JTG getting the better of Shad in the exchange.

6. Jack Swagger defeated Chris Jericho and Edge in a Triple Threat to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Good TV main event match. A few nice three-way spots and nice action. The crowd was cheering more for Jericho than they were for Edge. Lots of Y2J chants. The finish came with Jericho putting both men in the Walls of Jericho and then Edge hit his impaler DDTs on both men. Edge speared Jericho then Swagger threw Edge out of the ring and covered Jericho for the pin. After the match, Swagger did the gutwrench powerbomb on Edge. I beleive this is where the show will end.

Swagger was making his way up the ramp when Rey Mysterio came out and attacked Swagger from behind. CM Punk immediately came out and attacked Rey. They both fought towards the ring. The bell rings.

Dark Match

1. Rey Mysterio defeated CM Punk. IMO, the best match of the night. It lasted about 15 minutes. Lots of luchador style moves from both men with Punk slapping his chest in reference of course to Eddie after doing a flip from the outside ring apron, onto Rey. Multiple 619 attempts with Punk getting the majority of the offense in. A funny moment came when Punk had Rey beat down he called to the crowd "Who's the man?", which prompted a vast majority of the crowd (including myself) to shout back "You are." He paused and laughed at us then did a "aw shucks" gesture.

Rey won with the 619 and springboard splash. After the match, Punk got on the mic sounding very sincere and said that he has to tell us that "when it comes to the WWE universe .... I really hate you guys". He then started to leave and got back on the mic and said: "No, I'm not joking. I seriously hate you all." A CM Punk promo certainly sent me home happy no matter how short it was.

Overall, the show was much more enjoyable than last night's Raw, and the crowd was a lot more responsive, although they are still quite reserved. It was nice to see that there were pockets of smarks dotted around the arena who booed any video packages Cena was in, and cheered for Jericho and Punk. I kinda wish Cena had been there (can't believe I'm saying this) just because I think he would have been booed.

Top Face Pops
1. Rey Mysterio
2. Edge
3. Hart Dynasty
4. R-truth .....
5. Y2J

Top Heel Heat
1. Jack Swagger
2. CM Punk
3. Drew McIntyre
