Roddy Piper comments on not attending Ric Flair's retirement, says WWE didn't give him much notice
Apr 17, 2008 - 10:02 AM |
Roddy Piper expressed disappointment that he couldn't be part of Ric Flair's retirement weekend. "That was the saddest time in my career," Piper told the Poughkeepsie Journal. "The greatest wrestler in the world and I wasn't there for him. You've got to give me more than two days notice. You can't call me every fourth month and expect me to be there."
Piper added that he was working on the film Clear Lake in Winnipeg and was unable to accept the company's invitation. To read the full story, visit PoughkeepsieJournal.com.
Powell’s POV: The story notes that WWE invited Piper to WrestleMania 24, but clearly they wanted him to take part in the Flair tribute the night after. I know one of the legends they flew in for the tribute was given the same amount of notice, so either WWE didn't plan the tribute in advance or they were concerned that word of their tribute plans would be leaked if they contacted too many people.
