"That was the saddest time in my career," Piper told the Poughkeepsie Journal. "The greatest wrestler in the world and I wasn't there for him. You've got to give me more than two days notice. You can't call me every fourth month and expect me to be there." Piper added that he was working on the film Clear Lake in Winnipeg and was unable to accept the company's invitation. I know one of the legends they flew in for the tribute was given the same amount of notice, so either WWE didn't plan the tribute in advance or they were concerned that word of their tribute plans would be leaked if they contacted too many people.
