Jim Ross comments on Gregory Helms's health, announcing style changes, parody acts, his post-show routine, and pro wrestling websites
Apr 16, 2008 - 09:16 AM

Jim Ross updated the Q&A section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.

Ross on Gregory Helms's recovery from neck surgery: "I saw Gregory in Orlando recently at WM24, beard and all, and he is looking good but is still a few months away from returning to the ring. Gregory is a bright young man who loves the business and is one of the more underrated talents I can name."

-Ross on recent changes to the announcing style: "The announcers are largely talking less and are focusing more on the stories and not on every individual move and hold."

-Ross on his post-show routine: "I am usually with The King and in our car within a half hour or less after the show ends. We are not involved in any post event meetings unless there is a need to address our work."

-Ross on parody acts such as Shark Boy and Black Machismo: "Those gentlemen are just trying to get noticed. The question is they unfortunately come off as a comedy act, albeit entertaining, and will be sternly challenged to ever be in a position to main event a PPV utilizing those persona’s. I have no issues with their portrayals."

Powell's POV: Bingo.

-Ross on pro wrestling internet websites: "The Internet sites don’t hurt the business. Some of them actually do a really nice job with their sites and work diligently to post accurate info. Each reader has the choice to agree or disagree with their opinions, just like here."

Powell's POV: I can't speak for other websites, but my goal has always been to publish the results of pre-taped shows and ruin Smackdown's ratings. All joking aside, it's nice to hear someone associated with WWE say positive things about the "pro wrestling media."

Other topics of J.R.'s Q&A include John Cena, merchandise sales leaders, and Gordon Solie.
