2/8 WWE Raw onsite report: A detailed report on the live crowd's reaction to John Cena, Christian, Sheamus, Bret Hart, the WWE Hall of Fame announcement, and more
Feb 9, 2010 - 11:38 AM

Dot Net reader Edward Kirby attended the WWE Raw show in Lafayette, La. on Monday and passed along the following report.

Wow, what a downpour on the way from Lafayette to Baton Rouge. I hope everyone made it back home safely.

Anyway, as was reported by your other correspondents, the lines were long outside the Cajundome. I arrived there right around 6:10, and the gates opened around 6:20-ish. Forty minutes of waiting and advancing fifteen steps later, a security guy told us to move to another line and we'd go faster. Gee, thanks for not telling us sooner. Passed by two merchandise stands, both of which were about thee to five people deep. I decided against buying a Bret Hart shirt, in lieu of getting a CM Punk shirt tomorrow night. Shortly after I got to my seat, one kid reached across me to hand another kid DX glowsticks. How sweet.

Kelly Kelly came down to the ring before the Raw pyro went off. Huge pop for Hornswoggle (groan) when he got out the car. Pretty big pop when Carl Edwards hit the backflip off the top rope. Christian came out to an okay pop (and is one of few people I believe can be a foil to just about anybody's character). The WNBA crack fell faster than the hearts of Colts fans after Peyton Manning threw the pick-6 in the Super Bowl. The crowd was into the match for the most part, but didn't seem to be into the end.

After the Legacy interaction, Josh Matthews came out for the sign scan thing. Tons of Who Dat signs, and a Mike Knox lookalike. That was awesome.

After the Straight Edge Society came out and Punk mentioned the Super Bowl, he was drowned out by Who Dat chants. Really. I couldn't hear a damn thing he was saying. Huge pop for DX, and you never truly appreciate Big Show's size until you see him in person...from the cheap seats. As the teams were going to their respective corners, Show and a camera guy were jawing at each other. Wonder why.

There was a huge Triple H chant when he first hit the ring, and a huge pop for the S.E.S. loss. Did HBK whiff on the SCM to Show? The crowd felt stunned by the result. On his way to the back, HHH picked up the wrist bands from the ring and tossed them into the crowd. Pretty cool.

They had an NXT promo, at the end of which they called it a season. I wonder what they mean by that.

I was shocked Jillian Hall didn't sing "When the Saints Go Marching In", but oh how I wanna be in Maryse's number if you know what I mean.

Small ovation for "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase finally getting into the HOF. I might've been one of 25 people there who actually know who he is. (I exaggerate, but yet I wouldn't be surprised).

Jerry Springer got a good pop, I don't know what that says for the Lafayette crowd. Oh snap.

Randy Orton came out to a pretty good pop. 70/30 in his favor. Good heat for Adam Savage...er...Sheamus when he made his presence known. Cody Rhodes looked over Randy with the chair to sort of tease some dissension.

There was a botch with the audio. We heard the bit with Edwards saying "given what just happened here, my first matchup will be" and then it cut out. Oh, and at least we didn't suffer through any Raw Did You Knows. Pop of the night when John Cena came out. By far. Some cop wound up with Cena's hat, but he gave it to a kid in a Drew Brees jersey.

It was obvious Bret was going to come out. When Cena went to the back there was a mic placed on top of the stage and the security guys were just standing there waiting while Vince McMahon watched on from the ring. Pretty good pop when Bret came in. I don't know when the show went off the air, but he did a few of his poses in the ring before going to the back giving a few fives along the way.

All in all, not the best show I've been to (that goes to Extreme Rules last year), but not the worst. I look forward to attending (and reporting on) SD/ECW Tuesday night.

Who Dat!
