WWE revealed the third quarter earnings report on Thursday. The compay announced revenues of $109.6 million, which is down from the $111.3 the company reported for the same quarter in 2009. "In the third quarter, our results reflected the Company’s continued focus on optimizing business results in a difficult environment,' Vince McMahon said in the press release.

"We generated earnings growth despite a decline in revenue across many of our businesses. We believe our ongoing talent transition and the sluggish economy were important factors in these declines.

Based on our history of developing talent and creating content with broad appeal, we are confident we can address these creative challenges. Further, by taking advantage of our strategic opportunities, we can achieve meaningful growth." To read the full report, visit BusinessWire.com. [Thanks to Devin Cutting of ProwrestlingEvents.tk.]

Powell's POV: Vince cited "the perfect storm" of injuries and retirements as the cause for the lousy second quarter numbers. At the time, he did not tout the fact that the younger talent the company is pushing could pay off long-term, but it appears that will be the message today. We'll find out when he addresses the numbers this morning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
