"Three-time WWE Champion Mick Foley allowed his contract with WWE to expire on August 31, 2008," reads the statement. "WWE and Foley have mutually agreed to sever business ties at this time as the former Smackdown announcer pursues other options."

Powell's POV: If the definition of "mutually" has suddenly changed to "We tried to re-sign Foley, but he wanted to work for TNA," then WWE's description of his departure is accurate.
