WWE Smackdown will continue to air on Friday nights in the same time slot when it moves from The CW to MyNetwork TV this fall, according to TVWeek.com. MyNet president Greg Meidel was interviewed by the entertainment site and commented on the show's pending arrival.
"What it brings for us is that it really fits us like a glove," Meidel said. "This is truly an opportunity for us to take a franchise that’s proven, that works, that attracts a large audience as the dominant force every Friday night, as it did prior to that on UPN." Powell's POV: The story also notes that MyNetwork affiliates were asked to give up an extra two minutes in ad inventory for Smackdown. It will definitely be the most proven commodity when it moves to the network.
I'm somewhat surprised they are keeping the show on Friday nights. WWE officials were always big fans of Thursday nights. Perhaps they think it's too much to ask viewers to switch networks and nights at the same time.
