WWE announced Monday that former MLS Philadelphia Union President Thomas Veit had been named Senior Vice President of Live Events. The press release notes, "In his new role, Veit will oversee WWE’s Live Events department which includes ticket sales, event marketing and booking."
Shore's Slant: I know this is a couple of days old, but I'm a little baffled by this move. WWE announced in their quarterly conference call that live event ticket and merchandise sales are in the toilet. So why would you hire a guy whose most recent experience was in soccer? I mean, soccer isn't exactly breaking attendance records anywhere in the US that I'm aware of is it? I suppose he might be an expert in reaching niche markets, but would you consider WWE a "niche" market? I wouldn't.
