People within WWE have been told that Daniel Bryan was released because he choked ring announcer Justin Roberts during Monday's NXT invasion angle, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com. The act was deemed too violent for WWE television.

Powell's POV: Here's hoping this is just a cover story for the angle. If not, this is one of the most idiotic firings I've ever seen. Sure, I get that WWE is PG now and Linda McMahon is running for office, but in all the feedback I've received regarding Monday's angle, no one has mentioned anything about Bryan being too violent. In fact, his performance was among the highlights of the angle.

Bryan is the best wrestler of the NXT group. One of my concerns about giving the NXT gang the spotlight is that Bryan is one of their few polished wrestlers. If WWE has truly released their best wrestler, then it's a big blow to the NXT angle going forward. I could see fining the guy just to send a message, but firing him over something so ridiculous would be asinine. By the way, countless readers have noted that Bryan has changed his name to Bryan Danielson on Twitter.

This original source for the above news was Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com.
