WWE'13 publisher THQ had several assets auctioned off today as part of the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The WWE video game license was not one of the announced sells, but it is rumored that EA Sports has acquired the rights. Shore's Slant: Admittedly I have no idea how these sales would work, but I wonder if the $45 million debt from THQ to WWE is included in the sale and if that caused a sticking point that kept the deal from being announced. EA does not have a good history with wrestling games (WCW), but they could be motivated to ramp the game up a notch and certainly have a powerful name to the casual gamer. This could be a big win for WWE if the terms are good.
