Former WWE manager Johnny Valiant spoke with Alfonso Castillo of Newsday.com's Steel Cage blog about Vince McMahon, who went by the nickname of "Flex" in military school. "He used to walk around, kind of posing and what not,” Valiant said. "By way of the magazines, I was told his dad was a top wrestling promoter in Washington D.C… that he was this wrestling czar’s son. I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’ And he said, 'Yeah, my dad is a big shot.'"

Valiant also recalled working matches with McMahon with the other cadets. "He was ‘Ape Man’ McMahon and bleached his hair and we had matches in front of all the cadets," he said. Read the full story at Newsday.com/steelcage.

Powell's POV: Valiant recalled how he was kicked out of the school, whereas Vince was allowed to stay despite committing the same offense. He also spoke about how their paths crossed again years later, how knocking on Bruno Sammartino's door changed his life, and his run as a manager.
