Independent wrestler Devon Nicholson has filed a wrongful dismissal/breach of contract lawsuit against WWE in which he is seeking nearly $6 million. The lawsuit is based on WWE offering him a standard contract in June 2009 and then rescinding on the contract in August 2009 upon the discovery during the company's prescreen medical testing that Nicholson has Hepatitis C.

The lawsuit seeks $600,000 for dismissal and/or breach of contract; $250,000 for damages "for injury to dignity, feelings, and self respect"; and $5 million in aggravated and punitive damages. To read the full story, visit SlamWrestling.com.

Powell's POV: Nicholson previously filed a lawsuit in which he alleges that WWE Hall of Famer Abdullah the Butcher (a/k/a Larry Shreve) infected him with the disease. In this case, he is essentially claiming that WWE should not have revoked his deal because doctors have told him different things regarding whether he could have wrestled given the company's no blood policy.

WWE's Ty Bailey stated in the legal papers that it was not specifically due to the disease, but due to licensing issues, as five states bar wrestlers from competing with with Hepatitis C. Although I feel for Nicholson regardless of how he contracted the disease, I consider it to be a major reach for him and his attorneys to expect WWE to use him as a wrestler given that he is a carrier.
